Jazzmaster Build

Yes, there are 2 coats on it. It is water based and I found that the nickel settled out quite quickly so I had to keep mixing it. As a result there were several spots where the coat wasn’t very thick or even so I went over it a second time.
The conductivity of the paint seems very good. I have 0 Ohms continuity from every point to every other point in the cavities.

I know it has been a long while since I posted last. Suffice to say that this project got put on the back burner while other things took priority.

I am happy to report that I have fired up the "Build Machine" once again and have turned my attention back to this JM. I started on the wiring last night and I am hoping to complete it this evening. I retested fit and alignment last night to ensure neck, body, pickguard, pickup and string (Low E and high e) alignment were good. Everything checks out.

I will post more pics tonight.

Well, here’s the proof that I am getting old and forgetful.

I finished this guitar build (finally!) last week and I totally forgot to take any more photos. :BH:

I did kind of make a 90 degree turn and change things up from the original plan. I had a set of Fender MIM Player Series humbuckers in white so I installed them instead of the JB/Jazz set. I also installed white Fender knobs instead of the witch hats.

Also, in an act of sheer blasphemy, I drilled out a white Strat switch tip and threaded it onto the Switchcraft 3-way! It’s been loaded up with Ernie Ball Super Slinky’s and it’s ready to RAWK!

Pics to follow, I promise!

I discovered last night that it sounds kinda thin in the middle position both in humbucker and single coil mode. I am sure that I had the Fender wiring codes correct when I completed the wiring. I guess I am going to have to swap hot/ common wiring on one of the pickups to place them back in Phase when both pickups are on.

I finally got around to swapping around the leads on the neck pickup yesterday. Now the pickups are in phase in the middle position and sound good in both hum bucking and single coil modes.

I also took the opportunity to polish the frets as, direct from Mighty Mite, they were a bit scratchy feeling on bends. One last addition was a white switch tip on the mini toggle for coil splitting. I drilled out another Strat switch tip and press fit it on the mini toggle bat. It adds a little different look and finishes everything off, at least to my eyes.
