Is there an explanation for this ?

I’ve done it. Works fine. What’s the difference with the ball end hanging out of the machine head peg hole, as opposed to the other end of the string? If they were to clip them off, you’d never know.

edit: on Floyd equipped guitars, you’re gonna be trimming the non-ball-end regardless.

Agreed!

Here it is:
It's got string lockers at the tail.

Very interesting. It appears to have locking saddles, and it has both “Floyd Rose” and “Fender” stamped on the baseplate, but it doesn’t appear to have fine tuners.

Here’s a little bit about the set-neck Strats. It’s near the bottom of the page.

Apparently, they came out in 1992.

I like these!

According to the article I linked earlier, the 1992 set-neck Stratocasters had a mahogany body with a maple top. However, the 1996 set-neck Strats had an ash body with a maple top.
I have 2 setneck Strats and a setneck Tele. The first Strat one I bought used around 25 years ago and has a serial number that I have yet to find a decoder for. It’s SE801143, a Signature Edition from what I have googled, but no decoder for the year. I ran across a guy who had a SE9xxxx serial number and he had a Fender authorized dealer certify as a 1989. Even made him a COA for it. I’m still trying to figure mine out. It has the Wilkinson roller nut and the early Custom Shop logo on the rear headstock. I’m in the process of “restoring“ it (a topic for a new thread soon).

The second one I bought new at GC so I have the COA and pedigree on that one. The tele was an eBay purchase and I haven't dated that one either.
