Is there a way to block the Storage Shed?

I know this has been asked before but I'd like to ask again. Is there some way the admins can make the Storage Shed private where you have to ask for access to it? I find I am coming to the forum less and participating less because of the Storage Shed. I try to ignore the posts but find myself tempted to get political which will only cause problems for me. My politics are quite different from many of the forum members and I'm afraid my posts might become offensive to some. This is a guitar forum. That is the reason I come here. Thanks.

Be proud of your politics, and not afraid to put them out there. We're all adults here and I hope we can deal with our differences maturely. And you can always simply refrain from clicking on any given post - I do it all the time, but mainly where I feel I have nothing useful to add.

If I want to talk politics there are several forums where I can do that. I come here to read and talk about guitars and related gear. It's a simple request and not unusual in other forums. With most forum software it is easy to limit access to a particular area. Usually the forum shows up in the list of forums but you cannot access it until you have been granted access. When you look at new posts only posts you have access to will show.

I understand, but my feeling is that I like to know about the people I'm interacting with here. I want to know what they think about the world, their hopes and dreams. Just talking about guitars or whatever feels a little sterile for me. When I get together with friends the conversation ranges far and wide - that is how I like to interact with everybody. I think I would find a forum that discussed only politics very dull.

Greetings Kerry,

The problem with making it private is that nobody would know that it is there to ask permission to access it. A simple fix for you, if you do not want to see the Storage Shed is to log out. Unregistered visitors and members that are not logged can't see the Storage Shed. If you see a thread that you want to add a post to, login and make a post.

Musicians have included politics in their music for many years and I personally believe that politics is just as much a part of music as love, broken hearts, sex, drugs and Rock & Roll. I am aware that not everyone has the same political beliefs, not everyone here likes the same type of music or guitar. Heck we don't even limit this site to just guitars. Bass, drums, keyboards, vocals even didgeridoo players all welcome here. It's all about the music no mater what instrument you play or what motivates your playing.

Nicely put and a fantastic song by one of my favorite groups!

Kerry.......I dont understand ---- are you going TO the storage shed? If so dont ..... BUT if you use the "new posts" button of course yes it is going to propigate the new posts regardless of room location.

That is a quandary as the titles can oft times be enticing ......

I sent a PM to Kerry Brown and then decided to copy and paste here.
I won't debate this, only state my opinion that the moderators are burning potential members.

" Regarding, Is there a way to block the Storage Shed?
I agree 100% with you and as my similar request was rejected I only occasionally look in without logging in.
I made an exception (logging in) simply to back you up via this PM.
I'd happily become an active member if politics were removed or hidden."

That's my problem. I see a post in "new posts" and think it sounds interesting. Often it is and I start a reply then realise I'm going to get into an argument so I don't post it. I have Facebook for that. It looks like I'm in the minority here so I'll just leave it alone. One of the reasons I came to this forum is because the other one wasn't flexible. I do belong to other forums with private areas for politics and it works great there so I'll just spend more time there.

I too am a member of many other forums. One thing that most of them have in common is the forbidding of political discussions. I kind of thought that this place IS more flexible because we DO have a section specifically where political discussions are allowed. So Kerry, if you can find a way to keep this area private without hiding it from the members so as to allow them to make their own choice, I will consider this option. I do value you as a member here and do not wish to chase anyone away.

I dunno.

I can have some pretty weird dreams...like that one where I was being chased down the road by a great white shark that was dressed in a tuxedo and riding a unicycle!

Hory Ship, Smitty. And here I thought only I had dreams like that. Like the time I almost lost my friend's Amazon parrot at Club Med for birds, only to have a male ox chase me to try and hump my leg after a female ox had rubbed up against me and thankfully I found an open hopper window in a basement to jump through for my narrow escape.

Or the time I was witnessing a horrific air plane crash as a 747 was flying backwards with a Fuel truck in tow only to land terribly as the fuel exploded into a giant fireball that sent hundreds of people on the ground fleeing for their lives, me included.
Then suddenly my best buddy from elementary school pulled up in his GTO Judge and scooted over for me to drive us to safety at about 100mph. Then I wind up running the hallways of my high school looking for my class, but winding up in the right room but no students were my classmates. Then as I tried to figure out my locker combination and needing to find the right class, a teacher found me in the hall and hauled me down to the principal's office to explain my tardiness. My explanation not only confused me but it shook up the principal as it had been at least 10 years since I graduated and he still had to figure out how to help all those people involved in the airplane crash incident.

One forum has a sticky in few related forums about the private discussion forum. They have a mention in the forum rules and whenever a post gets political the moderators point out the forum and ask people to take the discussion there. I ran several computer related forums, newsgroups, bbs' etc for many years. It is not an easy task and I appreciate the work guys do. Thanks for considering my suggestions.

Seems to me its a software issue?
Can our software MAKE a particular room "invisible" unless you have permission to see it?

I dont think I have seen any forum with that feature......

I mean if it can do it--- Im all for it-- would be nifty-- and an intersting social experiment to see how many folks go that extra step and ad the feature-----could there be a "paid member only " section perhaps???????

PROFIT BABY ;)
