I signed up and place a few absentee bids on two Strats and a Washburn acoustic. The expected selling prices look WAY to LOW to me.

If they are not too low I may end up owning a guitar played by my guitar Hero!

Now don't you guys go outbidding me!!!!

Hope you get #0001 Strat. I believe the timing is good for buying now. I think the early 1980'S Strats David has for sale would be a good target
If you like C necks. The blue 1957 Strat with gold hardware is cool but I dislike V necks. All the best.

I'm trying to stick to the ones that may stay at the low end, but have been played by David.

There are a couple that were played by other band members with no linage to David.

So these guitars are, in a way, signature models on steroids?
They are worth more because some famous guy owned them,
and the ones he beat to sh!t on the road are worth even more?
They have this magical "mojo" thing because he owned them and
the aforementioned "mojo" thing will be passed on to the new owner
and as a result of this the new owner will be enabled to play better?
Why?
How?
I so totally do not understand all this
but then again, what do I know?

Yeah, I kind of have the same reaction to these things. I suppose if you are a huge fan and are buying something simply as a piece of memorabilia (which is the camp I believe Sp8ctre falls into) it makes sense if you think the price is fair.

But as instruments to be used/played these sales make no sense at all - pay lots more than market value just because [insert famous name] owned it? o_O er, no.

IMO These guitars are a part of history. Some of the greatest music of my time was written and performed on these guitars. To me they are iconic. Just to think
about how many people enjoyed and were entertained by the music played on these guitars is mind blowing to me.

I doubt my bids will hold up, but I can always hope. The estimated sales prices on Christie's web site seem ridiculously low to me...

Looks like they updated today 127 lot's now. I could not find the auction fees taxes packing and shipping charges.

I think the copy of #0001 bid $5k you just may win. All the newer Fender Strats the necks have been changed to 57V

If I had to come up with the scratch to buy a memorabilia piece from any guitarist, I probably would not even be able to outbid anyone for something as small as a Plectrum.

I suspect one will need a small mortgage to buy any of Gilmour's guitars.

We'll see. Bad thing is I'm travelling tomorrow...good thing is the auction is 3 hours ahead time zone wise. I need to find one I really want and concentrate on it.

If I spend more than $5K I'll be homeless...

Kinda like this scarf -----
900.00
that was (supposedly) worn by ELvis-----

OR for some real high dollar tom foolery check this crap out

This is not eBay or tom foolery. This auction is being done by Christie's for David Gilmour.

Silly. No guitar ever is worth that kind of money, regardless of who played it or what music was made with it.

It is worth what someone is willing to pay I suppose.
Overpriced games for rich folks I guess.

Goes to charity; I hope the charities involved are legit; where the majority of each dollar goes to the actual issue or group.
David seems like a genuinely decent man.
I wonder if he prefers David or Dave.

I thought all Davids used Dave commonly until a fellow I once worked with corrected me; fair enough.
Wonder about Bowie too.
Never met a James that didnt go by Jim or Jamie or such.
How easily I wander off....

“[Parting with the guitars] is something I’ve thought about for years,” Gilmour told Guitar World. “These guitars have served me very well. They’ve given me songs and tunes, but I thought it would be good for them to move on and create new music with different people. Hopefully, they’ll also raise a fair bit of money, which I plan donate to charity, and that will do some direct good in this world with all its difficulties.”

I wonder how many are going to actually be played on a regular basis; I doubt much.
