Intonation Anomaly with D'Angelico Strings:

I had a set of these laying around...black vacuum pouch with D'Angelico by D'Addario NYC printed on the pack. They are .046 x .009, just like the Ernie Ball Hybrid's I always use. I threw them on but added a 15/11/8 g/b/e string.

I kept hearing this very odd oscillation on the low E string. When fretting an open E, I had to pull down slightly on the A to get the chord to play in pitch. Only if I tuned the low E slightly flat, was an open E chord in tune!!!!

I moved the saddles to several different, even extreme positions, and this anomaly never changed.

Anybody experience anything like this before????

Could it just be a bad string? I've never seen it before, but I guess it could certainly happen.

That's what I think. I've never had an intonation problem with this guitar before and no matter where you put the saddle, you can't make it right....Oh, and all other strings are on the money!!!!

The D'Addario's have a shorter wind section, but they have caused me some intonation anomalies, so I went back to Ernie Ball and the intonation anomaly disappeared.

Not trying to sell a brand but have you tried the Daddario NYXLs? Regular Daddarios are good but these are on a whole new level. Never seen a set of strings take sheer abuse without breaking like these and still keep their sound. Ive put a set on my explorer thru sheer hell and they are like new months later.

Chris Callans is putting those on YelloStrat!

Maybe you bought fake knockoff strings.
But guitar strings are wound by hand one at a time. It is conceivable that there are defects which occur in the process occasionally.
It is remarkable that there are so many strings made and so little number of defects.

These were bought from a guitar shop and not online, so I'm guessing they are legitimate.
