Interview:

Lots of paperwork, background checks, drug screen...etc.
Plus numerous ethical and moral questions like: "If someone in the shipping department inadvertently left a brand new Fender Strat in a case next to your vehicle in the company parking lot, what would you do with it?"
My answer: Take it home and sell it. Then buy a G&L Commanche or Legacy. Then bring the G&L into Fender and announce to everybody: "We need to bring up our standards to these G&L's, and keep the prices to under $2000!"
... Just saying

What’s left?
What happened to the good old days when you went in for an interview and you got hired.

Lots of paperwork, background checks, drug screen...etc.

^^^This. I have a friend who owns his own electrical contracting business. Hiring and keeping a workforce that is not going to be impaired by drugs or alcohol is one of his biggest challenges.

AMEN! -- Im in charge of hiring and firing -- had to let one guy go 2 days before Xmas .... DRINKING ON THE JOB SITE -- more than ONCE-- was told by co workers to knock it off he didnt --
the last straw was the "hiding of beer" in the (wait for this one germ a phobes) ........in the PORTOLET on a construction site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and going in and slamming beers when he went to the toilet........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! uhm .......... that is when you 110% KNOW YOU HAVE A FREAKIN PROBLEM!

there is TMK few places ON EARTH that are more disgusting than a public construction site port-o-let in 100_+ temps IN FLORIDA ----- I think that was one of the most disgusting reasons ive had to actually DISCUSS for firing a guy .....

I was the ops manager at my last company for 15years. Never fired anyone for drinking on the job. Maybe they were really good at hiding it.

Some are. But, for my friend who is the electrical contractor, the problem isn’t so much drinking on the job, but being impaired by alcohol or drugs when coming to work and being worthless for the first part of the day, or just not showing up at all. He has tried to help his employees out with rehab or other means, but sooner or later most of them end up falling off the wagon.

It is a tragic thing for all parties involved, especially the one with the problem.
