nuttin wrong with basswood......its friggin wood......probably 1 solid piece of basswood instead of 5 pieces of mahogany and sawdust glued together ...........sorry was that derogatory?

I dislike the whole multiple pieces of low grade wood glued together and then sprayed/covered with more glue and then covered with veneer. I know I'll get pummeled, but you might as well have a guitar made from high grade plywood. I'd rather have simple wood than glued on fancy veneer. Now, an actual piece of nice fancy wood is a whole different story of course :D

Plywood has worked for Danelectro ...........they get good $$$ for them "junk" guitars.......

FYI--- the strat I pictured earlier----- I just sold for a very nice profit to a local fella......with a guitar stand ...so---er there is that potential as well......RESALE VALUE!!!!!........................because people just DONT BELIEVE the 48.00 guitar on ebay is functional or playable----but ya charge em over 100.00 for it and suddenly it sounds SOOOOOOOO much better..........human beings are funny creatures......

I bought two of the cheapo guitars this thread started on.
Figured if I bought two it'd be a good test: both good, one good - one bad, or both bad.
I'm am going to say both were bad because neither could just be set up, etc to be played.

Here's what I got.

Both body's look nice, they are real light, and appear to be solid wood (not plywood or veneer covered).
I haven't really checked the bodies for proper placement of routes, etc, yet - not sure if I'd be comfortable calling them good at the moment.
And, the reason I haven't checked the bodies yet are neck issues and communicating with the seller...

Both necks are at least messed up with one possibly usable and the other better off just stripping and trashing (nice round kind of baseball bat style necks though).
The nut on one is TOO far forward for the scale length. The other is off too, but not as bad.
Setting the intonation on the one neck wasn't happening as the saddles have to be move so far forward several of them are hitting the 6 screws that the trem pivots on before intonating.
The other, just barely set up with the same issue of having to be moved way too far forward.
And, on top of this the strings on both necks have an extreme sideways angle from the nut to the tuners.
Can't due much about that short of plugging all the tuner holes and re-drilling them further up the headstock.
So, both necks should probably be stripped for parts and the wood used for plugs and what not.

If your looking for something to play and not stinker around with you'd be far better off with an sx furrian or hawk or affinity tele.

Unfortunately I didn't think of taking any picks when they first came in, etc, and they are now in pieces.
I'm not real forum geared/savy yet - lol.

If anyone is interested I may post some pics, but I have to assume most people at this forum know what strat bodies, loaded pick guards, and necks look like ;)

In my opinion this was essentially a bust, would not recommend the guitars at all, and I'll be lucky if I can get my money back out of them.

If I come across any necks I 'might' try setting up one, but at the moment it's like throw more money/time at it or walk away type thing...

I'll probably just list them as project guitars on the local craigslist, take what I can get, and run away - lol...

^ good review; interesting read.

You can probably pick up a new Cort strat for $150, and that's a really good strat.

Thanks for the update Sir.
Sucks that it was a bust...but you took one for the team. Now, we all know what to expect. I came close to pulling the trigger.
At least it wasn't a huge investment. Good overall review too.

If someone is looking for an actual player guitar I don't recommend these at all. I was hoping to do a bit of work on them, maybe some fret/nut work at most, and sell 'em for a few more bucks than I bought 'em for, but that's not happening with these.

So, I traded one set of the tuners that were on one of the bad necks for a Bad Monkey that needed a little TLC - put that in another thread. And I also traded the two loaded bodies for this:

He has a bunch of cheaper instruments he's bought for kids to cut there teeth on...
