I --- for some time have wanted a 50's vibe Squire "P" bass.....they just "look cool" and vintage-ish....
I WOULD LOVE a real 50's Precision --- however those can be 4 to 8 grand---- (no)
The Squires are cheaper 300 used -500 new.....
HOWEVER---- lovely as it is -- it would just be "another Squire" --- and so a fella here on these very digital pages made a suggestion to me..........actually it was a question.......
"Have you ever tried a Godin" ?
Me: "well.....er, no"
So upon doing some research here and abroad in the interwebs.......I have discovered that -- well--- these seem to be very decent instruments.
This model is Vintage Precision bass "esque" in size and style (but with a metric TON of pickups!!)
--Look HACK a TRIPLE !!!
ANd well me being me------ I accepted Mr Sessions leather glove to the face challenge----- and went out and found a bargain bin deal on the "bay" for one of the Canuckian boom sticks!
IT arrived today --- from the U.S. version of Canada----- Washington State!! BUWAHAHAHA ---sorry no offense to any Canadians intended....... its a JOKE--- and well Seattle is WEIRD MAN if any Seattlites are offended--well you should be now go eat some wheat grass and have some coffee---
So -- where was I --- oh yes --- SHOCKER -- I bought a bass----to try --- I wanted to see for myself IF the Canadas could make a quality product of the low down persuasion (yes I know the Seagull and other Godin Corp. products are VERY NICE--I am not disputing that--) but IMHO -- boomsticks are a different animal --
SO ----
HEre we go a FOOLs review.
out of the box (note this was purchased used) the build quality is very good .....there are little "things --- like the way the control cavity cover is cut

-- proves this is a smaller batch Mfct. style hand made instrument-- not cnc spit out a million a minute--- and I sort of like that -- nice touch-- moving on...........
The neck is --- well -- a LITTLE thick, but SPECTACULAR--- very old Fender in shape and feel familiar....yet new....its at the very EDGE of my window of play ability --
The pickups---- oh MY HEAVENS! if these are proprietary they NEED TO SELL THESE individually-- LOVE the pickups -- full massive rich tone---

YES I ran to the FEDEX truck so fast my shoe came off!!!!!!!!!!!
The finish and build quality are great-- -its hard to see but this is actually a VERY subtle transparent cream to BURST--- with natural wood grain coming through and an opaque cream on the edges......classy --- very classy--

the body is THICK but not heavy --- the heel/neck/joint is THICK so upper fret work is somewhat difficult-- but hey its a BASS damn it--- your not supposed play up there anyway --- thats for guitarists and "jazz" players.....
THE biggest issue --- and really the only NEGATIVE -- which I can not fault GODIN for as I did buy this USED ...and "as is" --- for a FRACTION of the cost of a new one---- when I went to try the "push pull" tone pot for the first time................

it came OUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Effortlessly ----- uhm............looks like I have a new project...........
So there you have it
The Godin SHifter 4 bass AMAZING pickups (really these things are amazing) EXCELLENT handcrafted build quality--- SOLID necks....good tuners...."dodgie" push pull control quality (hey it STILL WORKS as a TONE KNOB) perhaps I just need a little lockie thing to clip into the shaft there at the bottom and hold it in place???? Like a bread bag clip? or some fishing line.....Great WHite Northern Bass is about to get some good ol SWAMPNECKISTANIAN repair magic! ---(aka redneck engineering) ---cause I dont think parts are gonna be easy to find for this Gal.
Who knows......................stay tuned,
BUt in CONCLUSION-- GODIN.....IMHO....Canuckistanian Guitars..................... ROCK! (eh)

That's interesting the bass guitar has 3 pick ups as opposed to 2 or just one. The tonal variety on your bass must be splendid. I hope you enjoy it for years to come. You can't go wrong with a Godin guitar IMHO.
