I have been waiting on my V for what seems like a lifetime. The type I'm getting is a 70's classic and it comes with BurstBucker pickups. I have heard good and not so good opinions on them. This beauty is going to set me back >$2000 and changing out pickups wouldn't be on my to do list if possible. I'll probably be playing it through my DSL100H exclusively because of the high gain capability (I have Schenkeritis at the moment :giggle: ). Who has these pickups and what are your feelings about them? All opinions welcome. Thanks!

I have a Burstbucker 2 in the bridge of a 335 clone. I personally love it. Some cant stand them but to me its like a PAF with more punch. I debated using a Burstbucker 1 in the neck but opted for a 57 Classic Plus just to be contrary lol. Great pickup as well however.

Never tried the Burstbucker 3 or the Pros but if what you are getting is anything like the 2? Id say you'd like it. Cleans up beautifully and then can get down right nasty sounding.

This is it on a DSL50, green channel crunch with gain around 6ish, no fx, straight in.

Very good demo!! And who says you need the real thing to play and sound great, love the clone!
Thank you my friend! I appreciate that!

It was literally a pawnshop prize my dad got years ago for i think $175-200. Some no name guitar called a Kansas ( best i found is it was a subsidiary of Cort guitars). I asked if i could have ift and fix it up and he said " Sure, i dont play it anyways"

Has a maple top and mahogany back and neck. Full binding top, back and neck. I changed every one of the components to Gibson OEM and put Grover Mini Rotomatic Tuners on it, basically put double into it compared to its worth lmao but it works wonderful and is fun

I think Gibson PUs are better than others.
people have told me burstbuckers are just fine.
So I wouldn't worry over it.

I cannot find the specs on my 2018-19 LP’s but I believe they have BB pros, my V has dirty fingers . And I will say the BB’s are great

Good pickups. I have personally used all 4 variants. Keep in mind that these are relatively low output.

Tom Holmes, who also designed the Classic 57 for Gibson, found the ideal number of winds and resistance (his written opinion) to be 7.5kohms for the neck and 8.2 to maximum 8.5 kohms for the bridge pickup. More or less is diminishing the tone quality, again in his own opinion.

Here's a breakdown:

The Burstbucker 1 is a slightly under-wound model, with medium output. It maintains the classic ‘creaminess’ and edge that typifies a PAF, but with an output that means it is equally adept as a neck or bridge pickup.

The Burstbucker 2 is slightly ‘hotter’, with more turns of wire. According to Gibson, its output is closer to that of a ’57 Classic.

The Burstbucker 3 has more windings still, and its over-wound design makes it the highest output Burstbucker, but again, with classic PAF tone.

NB: All of the above are available in Nickel, Gold, Zebra and Black finishes.

Burstbucker Pro
The Burstbucker Pro is a more modern incarnation of the model, which swaps the Alnico II magnet for an Alnico V magnet. Unlike the other Burstbuckers, which are sold individually, the Pro models are sold only in calibrated pairs.

Tonally, they offer ‘enhanced’ PAF tone that’s a bit brighter with more ‘bite’. These are available in gold or nickel finish.

All Burstbuckers feature 2-conductor wiring.

Ah ok, I looked on the Gibson web site and it didn't say "burstbuckers". Looking at that link I would guess they are regular Burstbuckers 1 and 2. I didn't care for them in my Tribute, but you might like them, only way to know is to try them. Some people love them and some people hate them. I know I didn't like the burstbucker 61s in my Standard until I started playing with the volume and tone controls, then they were much better.
