Incoming Compression depression

Wampler Ego Mini for guitar - Zoom MS-60B for bass - For my DAW (Logic Pro X), I use the compressor
model included (it's amazing), but sometimes use Waves CLA plugins with SSL compressor.
My Mini Tumnus IS GOLD, but it's an overdrive, sadly. :(

The pedal sounds good as I’m intersted in live use.

But, I’m not sold on the Logic Pro X. I mean...it’s just software. I can’t enjoy the...Look of it...the Taste of it...the Schmell of it...he, he!

Day 2 ----Im using it with (of course) the MESA - -however -- Sysco and gball have freighted me into thinking I have possibly destroyed it by buying JJ's tubes---

You did WHAT? No no no no no. With any boogie you should spring for Mesa replacement tubes. These are "STR," meaning "special tube request." You "may" be lucky with pre's & plug in other types that will perform well (if from a reputable supplier they should), but Mesa's you KNOW will be quiet, non microphonic & meet specs, so sound as expected. For power tubes, well Mesa amp have a "non adjustable" fixed bias supply. Their (STR) power tubes are selected to have operating parameters that meet requirements, thus are guaranteed to simply plug in & bias correctly, saving you the need to change/adjust resistance values in the bias supply circuit to properly bias your tubes.
Ok, rant/lesson over. Cheers

esto no es bueno por favor?

The pre's should be fine. With the power tubes, just get someone to check that the plate current is within limits, preferably someone that can adjust a resistance value in the bias supply circuit if needed. Cheers

uhm.....Im gonna need a picto graph --- or at least a color by numbers version of that last bit-- -is that ENGLISH?
I thought the MEsas were non adjustable.....

the tubes in the ad are supposed to be matched to the amp-- they were even taped together with a decal saying as much.......

man -- no wonder solid state is more popular ----

I got 30 days to return em---

anyone wanna pony up the additional 90.00 for the actual MESA tubes????

I can start a go fund me-- Call it a half way house for Mesas that cant go all the way?

Have you sorted out your plate currents yet, Senor eSGEe?

In the link you provided, I couldn't find where it says the power tubes are matched to the amp, though thats not to say the seller hasn't assured that the power tubes have the operating parameters required by your Mesa, they may well have done . There's an easy way to check that it's safe to use them, just watch the power tubes with the amp running, from idle (no input signal), through to full tilt while playing. If those large "outter"" metal structures (the plates) inside the tubes DON'T glow cherry red (overheating due to excessive current) at any point from no signal to full tilt, you know that you can safely use them without incurring damage to the tubes or your amp.

Yes, the bias circuit in a Boogie is not adjustable, which means that the negative bias voltage cannot be altered by turning a trimpot. If necessary, the bias voltage in such an amp "can" be altered by changing the value of one of the resistors in the bias circuit, usually by piggybacking another resistor across it. Cheers

ITs the first 2 items listed:
This set includes:
(2) Matched JJ EL84 power tubes
(3) JJ ECC83S preamp tubes
(1) "Gain Balanced" JJ ECC83S preamp tube (phase inverter) marked with yellow "Balanced Triodes" Sticker

all the tubes are glowing......are they not supposed to be right -- but its glowing like in the middle -- the grey area is grey not red.... they are WARM -- but the amp was getting (IMHO) extra warm before -- the switches (on and off) were warm to the touch -- they are not at present and the amp has been running (and WORKING) for an hour +

glowing about like this

or these

Hard to get a pic the flash overides the glow :(

also -- ( I did research the sellers not just jump at the cheapest thing available-- I mean I LOVE MY MESA) -- look at the sellers rating
1,633 5 star--

I think they MOVE some tubes--
and I am guessing correctly--the headline specifically stated "FOR the F30" and one other model--

the amp is running cooler -- and SOUNDS BETTER than ever. :)

NAw come on over bring that new Epi you bought and we can see how it growls through the MESA beastie--

So--- I CAN HAPPILY REPORT AFTER A FULL 5 HOUR SHAKE DOWN RUN-- on off-- FOOL volume (attenuation is such a blessing) low volume and all channels spanked--- the MAIN issue/reason I looked to a tube change in the first place ----- HEAT----has been GREATLY REDUCED ---

last week the on off/standby switches would get very warm to touch after several hours on-- as would the MESA emblem itself---the amp is a good 6 inches away from the wall-- and has ample air flow---

Tube change has reduced that very favorably

Messa's are amazing amps, and that your's is now working to it's full potential is a lovely thing.
(&, who said I bought an Epiphone, as you know I'm not that fond of the brand...)

Messa Boogie, now there's a brand I'd love to own!

The tubes in your pics look just the way they should, with only the heaters & cathodes glowing. (heaters & cathodes run through the center of the tubes, lengthwise). If they were drawing excessive current those large grey structures (the plates, or anodes would glow).
When they say the tubes are "matched," it mean the the tubes are matched up to tubes with similar electrical characteristics (into pairs, quads etc). Cheers

I Have inquired with the seller about the tube "matching" ---

would 2 MESA EL84's be "safer"--better?

What can running incorrectly biased tubes do to the amp?

the Tubes in question were "APEX" matched to 27/9510 both --
From the owners manual and Randall Smith
As long as the tubes ARE “in spec”, the right bias voltage will always give the correct plate “CURRENT” — but then there’s no need for the bias voltage to be adjustable!

Can anyone find WHAT that "SPEC" is? I dont even know how its measured-- perhaps the 27/9510 is "within spec"?

I am not (see previous numerous rants about soldering a simple pickup) about to open the thing up and try do what ever the "piggybacking" thing your talking about in post 52 is as I will certainly destroy the amp and only create a new item for target practice----

the cost of paying a tech would be I assume-- more than the 2 EL84's properly tested and biased and blessed by the Gods at MESA.......I wonder if Randall SMitth rubs his junk on them........hhhhmmmm....SURELY he does the amps...
looks like another 50.00 for just 2 tubes --- probably could sell the JJs on craigslist or something for 25.00 so that is cheaper than a tech ---and a mod--

I am curious to hear the sellers remark....will report back
