In a bit of a funk lately

A year ago I was diagnosed with high pressure in my right eye. High pressure if left untreated can develop into glaucoma and blindness. It is usually treated with drops. Turns out I am allergic to all the different drops. Spent a a few months finding that out then got referred to a surgeon. He tried a laser procedure. It didn't work. Then had a Trabeculectomy. A slit is cut in your eye and a flap is created over top of it to allow fluid to drain out to relieve the pressure. The recovery time is normally eight to twelve weeks. It's been over that and my vision in the affected eye is barely 50%. One of the complications of the surgery is a cataract may develop. I am now scheduled for cataract surgery Monday. In the mean time the pressure in my other eye is climbing and it is also developing a cataract. Tried some drops that have no preservative, didn't work. Tried laser again, didn't work. So now once I recover from the cataract surgery I need to have a Trabeculectomy on my other eye. All this combined with COVID-19 has put me in a funk. I am working out of it. I had a long talk with the surgeon last week and we came up with a timeline which includes three surgeries. I talked to my sister who has had cataract surgery which was very successful. Having a plan has greatly eased my mind. I haven't been playing much guitar lately because of the funk. I am really missing playing live, which adds to the funk. First world problems I know. Anyway the funk is lifting since the surgeon came up with a plan. I've been playing more. I hope to do some writing and recording. Thanks for listening. Typing this out has helped.

Very sorry to hear of the eye issues. And sorry that your funk is not the good and groovy kind.
Any medical issue now days -- have a WHOLE NEW DIMENSION involved......w/ added stress and problems.

I am glad to hear the funk lightening, one thing that is always true....this too shall pass, hang in there -- work the plan -- and keep us in the loop of your progress and success. :)

Thanks everyone. Talking about things is how I work myself out of a hole. Thankfully it's not a deep hole.

Tower of Power is pretty good but here is some modern funk. Cory Wong is one of the best rhythm guitar players alive today. Joe Dart is amazing on bass. Vulfpeck always brings me out of a funk!

My friend is battling Uveitis, basically inflammation in the eye, brought on by generalized systemic inflammation without a specific root cause. Similar to your situation, one "cure" causes another risk, like high pressure. He is working through it by trying different things, and his vision has been better and worse at times as a result. Keep battling brother, and keep using your ample brain to research the best path forward. You will get there!

Oh man nice to have a plan. That is really scary. I'm sure now that there are dates involved the surgeon has it well in hand. Once cataract is clear you always have at least one good eye. My old manager at my last job had sudden retinal tears. Over a coiple years wound up with a glass eye. Glad he has one good one although once had to get laser surgery to repair retina in the good one too.
Cheers.

Sorry to hear of the complications; I think I recall you posting about this the end of last year.
Prayers and good vibrations sending your way.

I may have mentioned it then, my dad lost an eye as a kid so I am very aware and sensitive about eye health and safety.

Just got home from the hospital. The cataract surgery looks to be a success. Very happy. As I was getting off the operating table the doctor asked how was my sight? I closed the left eye and was astounded. The right eye was very clear, as clear as before the first surgery. He did say it will get blurry for a few days as it swells from the surgery. If is already blurry after the drive home but no fog and colours are vivid. Before the surgery it was like a foggy day. Everything was blurry and washed out. Looking forward to a week from now.

I go back for a post op check tomorrow and to find out when the Trabeculectomy on my left eye will happen. Things are moving after months of worrying. The Trabeculectomy is a much more involved surgery with a longer recovery but now that I have sight in my right eye I’m looking forward to it.
