Use audacity..mic cabs & record..got it down to capture. to take to real studio..but not anything like my guy at studio on His Pro-tools set up with decent tube pre amps

Could i do it & make music ? ..like real music at home or is it best to leave well enough alone --- focus on the emotion of writing songs vs getting caught up in all that

been struggling for along time,,cause sure could do a song a week easily...if i could get it up to par

what my buds think about all this ?

I can bet my last dollar that ya can bro, but don’t ask me how because I am more ignorant on this matter than anything!
Cheers Mitch

There is quite a learning curve, but you can do it! I went from Audacity to Reaper and it took some getting familiar. Some things are just so
easy to do in Audacity that I do them there and then import them into Reaper for the more sound altering and instrument mixing steps...

I have a friend that has his own studio. He produced a Grammy Nominated Flute album recently. Let me ask him what he uses...

been digging...Pro Tools? i could export to my guy & collaborate. I figure so much goes in the front end of my stuff(proper guitar laying..sitting it on bass..vocals in their spot) if i could just learn to capture it right...messed with drums once in my Room...wow did it record good,,used 3 mic technique.

think the stopping & starting drives me nutz..even in sessions..he figured out for solos..we do 3 takes playin thru the song & he sends me home...reacting player vs calculating..

Anyone can learn it. It's just an acquired skill, like most things. If you're feelin' it I say go for it.
Going to try it on a song...make the best i can do at home & then go to studio. with it..have a song called Trash ...going to really take some time.

Also think Jon really extracts out of me ..your pretty vulnerable once that first note is hit at 9am...that song you put together is now being made all over again.. think the 'great ears" in a studio guy you trust..maybe the mojo is in that...i never know whats coming back till he sends us the pre mixes....crazy have 20 songs sitting ready to do something with..even final mixes

NO you're not stupid, and YES you can learn Pro-Tools.

All the different DAW's have a learning curve, but if you can learn basic Windows, I believe you can learn P.T.

Lot's of training on YouTube etc..., I, myself have now played around in PT, Reaper, and Garage Band, and if I can so can you my brotha.

In fact @BFT Gibson, I would be shocked if you couldn't.

You have a very good mind for the technical, and that's all it is really.

I've been concentrating on Reaper, which is compatible with P.T., and we have some GREAT members here who would probably love to help.

I found the transition so easy from standalone to desk top DAW, way easier than I thought- go for it.

the world DOES NOT want recordings or proof of MY PLAYING :)
That's where you're wrong, my friend.

Just the satisfaction of the creative process is good for your soul.

On the computer I'm not only a guitarist, but I have a virtual organ/ piano, drums, bass, synths. None of which I'm able to play in real time lol.
It's a ball putting it all together, and plus I get to use all this equipment I've been hoarding.

I find the best recordings are when you go to a studio, and have someone who knows the equipment in charge. Also, he is an objective extra set of ears. He'll make you do something over when you may think it sounds good. At least that's my idea on it. Home recording is good for working out songs, their arrangements, lyrics, and all that good stuff. If you want to sell yourself, or as a finished product, see a professional.
