I'm a Dad, I do Dad things, like this....

Nice groove!!
Kids have skillz!
Thanks. I don't get to see them as often as I would like since they are 200 miles away.

I will tell you something interesting that I have discussed with my Son. At live shows, I am sometimes surprised that they seem to manage to talk to two different audiences. The jazz/fusion people get it and enjoy it, but I swear the GROOVES manage to entertain the regular non jazzy people. Son says it's all on purpose.

They are on a break for a few weeks now.

That's basically what I liked about them, while I am old enough to hear the jazz, the grooves were definitely more than just jazz. Not saying they sounded like them, but it reminded me of some of the "calmer" Mahavishna Orchestra stuff as well as Al Dimeola, Chic Corea, even some Santana.

You are hearing it right. They are playing fusion....but it's best not to say you are playing fusion. ;) They do OK, they played every Tuesday night for three months at a local venue, they played and hosted a jam and have been well recieved.

The really interesting thing for me, though, is that my Son gravitates toward some old fusion. The MORE interesting thing is that he will hit me in messenger with a link and when I play it, I recognize the players. I never pushed fusion on the kid as he was growing up, but his musical tastes and mine meet in certain fusion. It's very interesting to me, since I did not introduce him to the stuff and for sure can't play most of it. I mostly play punkish originals now.

Weird, right??

You just never know. Luckily my son gravitates toward rock now (luckily not rap), he's a hug Foo Fighters Fan so I'm happy with that. My daughter likes to hear my own music from time to time, which is generally rock, but not hard rock....which is a little odd because I was heavily into MOUNTAIN (and Leslie West before Mountain), Black Sabbath, Zeppelin and many other heavy artists. But as I got older I got softer i guess. When I played in a more serious band it was 1977 we were playing originals almost exclusively in NYC. We were naive enough to think we were competing with some of the bigger bands like The Ramones, Talking Heads, Television, Blondie, etc. others that we got to know. We could have been good friends with some of them, but felt they were OUR competition. Yeah, we were certainly wrong about that! I like them all alot now though.
