Ibanez Destroyer DT520 Black:

Yes! Sharp! Not flat...good catch.

Good points, too, Don. I am really torn. I love the ruggedness of a fixed bridge, but some songs require tremolo, or at least you have the option.

I've had some bad tremolo experiences in years past, but maybe its time to try a Floyd Rose again.

If you plan to gig on the reg, it would be good to have two. I made my way through the 90s with two Washburn N2s(for standard tuning), and either a decked Strat, or a tuneomatic ESP LTD Horizon(for drop tuning).
If you break a string live, you will not have time to replace the string in a reasonable fashion...just pull the plug, and switch off to a back up. People(including your band mates) will throw less sh*t at you for wasting their time.

Great points!

I'm actually interested in the Tremol-no. I ran my Strat decked for years and still used the trem with 5 springs.

I was really thinking of getting some old Super D's for my mahogany body JEM. That's what those are correct?

Don, what's your honest opinion of the modern Floyd Rose's?

My 1984 was a locking nut but without fine tuners!

Only the base model, bolt on neck DT155 got Super 70's. (The DT155 was also 25.5" scale - the DT555 shown in the video were all 24.7" scale)

The guitar in the video has (3) Ibanez V2's 16. 2k ohms and he is playing on the middle position.

I tried a couple of gadgets to facilitate making a Floyd equipped guitar easier to deal with...I never got on with any of them personally. Probably just my intolerance of the end result...the neutering of a bouncy Floyd equipped guitar.
I can get used to a double-stop becoming a double-bend...I did it for enough years. But a blocked Floyd...meh...still more finicky than any hard tail...and still a PITA to quick change a string.

It is what it is...probably the most reliable, best performing trem system out there.
Great for recording if the player has a feel for the double stops, and bends and such(great big IF). Great live, if you have suitable back up...but that is a must if you are planning on playing one song, or more...because if you break a string, that guitar is done until break(if you get one).
That said, I'll not go back for anything other than fun...nothing (other than stunt work) that I get paid for.

I used to deck my Strat for live stuff....then pull a spring and float in the studio....thinking I might be able to do something similar with the Tremol-no....

Remember the trem use in Bryan Adam's I Need Somebody?

Funny, I like a lot of Canadian things...I've just not got a spot for Bryan Adams. No ill will, or dislike, just not my thing... that said, trem diving only there. That's all I hear. Nothing requiring a tug upward on the bar from neutral position. In the live video that I just tort...en...watched I saw a Strat, with what looked like a down only Floyd set up.
Just my speed.

I liked Adam's voice and his guitar player. I thought he was different for the time period and we covered a lot of his songs...but I totally understand!

I hope you like Triumph!

It only happens if you apply enough pressure to overcome the spring tension on the strings. Floating tremolos are balanced in a way that makes it easy to do because spring, and string tension are matched. So when you bend a string, you increase the load on the springs, and the others go flat. "Decking" a strat tremolo, for example can make it near impossible to overcome the spring tension. My Stetsbar guitars have an adjustment for spring tension, and an adjustable stop point for upward travel of the trem...that makes it easy to "deck" them so that I can drop tune without all the other strings going sharp.

THANK YOU :)
