What is that? I can't find any info on it, all that comes up are Ibanez pickups, but not those. I'm wondering what those pickups are. Personally I don't like the looks of the guitar, but it is different.
Mine is a '78 Gibson Flying V2. According to everything, it is not supposed to exist, as the model was officially introduced in '79. The pickups are referred to as "Boomerang" pickups. They are two three pole single coils that act as a humbucker. They slay Telecaster pickups in the way that they are designed. They sound a bit thin with an over powered amp, but when wound up through and under powered amp they truly shine. Mine has an unknown "Black Box" pre-amp or overdrive wired into the pickups. It kills when wound up.

I forget the guys name who everyone doesn't like for his reviews (Scott??), but he did a great review for this model and how it totally kills Telecasters.

Gibson dumped a ton of money into this model, and it was their most expensive guitar in '79. Unfortunately, it did not sell well. The Explorer E2 did much better. I have always wanted to get one of those to have the matched pair.

Thanks, that's pretty cool. I'd love to try the pickups.

Scott Grove…

One thing I got from that was I need a compressor, lol! At 4:35 when he plays the neck pickup it sounds amazing, but not so much after he switches off the compressor.

Anyway, those pickups are cool, thanks for posting the vid. Now I know what they sound like. :yesway:
Yeah, that's the guy. In the early days of eBay, I found a set of Boomerang pickups for short money to have as a spare set in case mine ever failed, or I wanted to use them in a weird design build. I don't use a compressor with mine, but the Prince of Tone and KTR both sound pretty fat with mine.

Same with my 79 LP Artist with the Moog electronics (speaking of compressors) . Most expensve LP at the time and they only made like 500 in 3 different finishes. Not popular although they thought synth was the next big thing. Not on guitars boys...
Coolest thing about it is active EQ.
Those Vs are really cool.

No , I haven't, I can't imagine playing one sitting down. No I don't watch gladiator movies eithier.:D
Well I have played a Flying V while standing….

If I want to step forward with my right foot, either the guitar tips…or the V slips into a position like post #35.
Now…there are appropriate occasions for either position, but it is the way of things with a Flying V.

First V2 I have seen in red. My friend Troy owned a large club called me told me to bring my Korina V that night to jam night
used my 100 watt Marshall Super Lead it just killed only guitar and amp no effects 1999 was the last time I played it in public
the good old days when you could crank a 100 watt Marshall on stage.
