Not sure why you have to spend years starving and trying to claw your way to the top to "earn your dues". Then when you make it and have money you become a "sell out".

People are fickle and Full of $hit!
 
It’s about the music. If what you play sounds musical to you then more power to you. I quit playing guitar for 30 years because of a savant like that. I was in a band and the lead guitar player brought a guy to a practice. He didn’t know the names of the notes. He didn’t know what a chord was. He couldn’t tune his guitar to standard tuning. He tuned it to what sounded good to him. It was not EADGBE. It was not an open chord tuning. He could play along to any song we played by the second or third bar. I was so disheartened I quit playing guitar. I started again about ten years ago. Now guys like that don’t bother me at all. As long as I can make some music and hopefully get the audience dancing it’s good enough for me.

Well said! I'm having fun playing nursery rhymes on my Sax!
 
I make a joyous noise (to me) -- Im not going to play ALbert Hall-- not gonna play ALberts back yard for that matter--
I LIKE guitars-- (and bass)
I play them -- for fun-- for relaxation-- for a hobby I can (sometimes) make a $ on -- and that im HOME doing -- with my family and critters-- not AWAY -- not OFF on a dive or hunting or golfing or poker or gambling or ....or.....???? outting--
So -- its a hobby the MISSES likes as well :)
