I need a slap to the head

Smitty I don't see you being a cheap half-stepper. No offense you cheap a$$ half-steppers out there & you know who you are, But I do see you as a man of refinement, class & sofistication that can appreciate the finer & sometimes often expensive the things in life like a genuine Gibson guitar. I also believe you probably think Gibson when you want a Les Paul and also think that money spent of a fine guitar you like & will enjoy is money well spent!

There are always decent deals on Gibson husks on 'the bay' that offer you carte blanche modification potential without any potential feelings of remorse or guilt that can accompany modifying a pricey original condition Gibson Les Paul. Although I somewhat despise these hacks out there that are all too willing to part out older Gibsons so they can increase their measly profit margins selling everything piece by piece. (By the way WTF!!!? Is life that fvk'n tough man? Geesh!) lol

Anyway, some cash tightened hacks violating a classic Gibson is your opportunity to grab a deal & not feel too bad about modifying it. Just don't let that guilt by association thing fvk with yer head bro! LOL

Hey, lets face it, Gibson Les Pauls are both iconic & totally fvk'n awesome!

While I understand your sentiment, I would like to offer an alternate opinion.

I own the geniune thing, "real" custom shop Gibsons, and I still recommend the Agile, especially to Smitty who can make a few minor adjustments. There is a difference between cheap and inexpensive. There is also a difference between being cheap and being smart. While I do not regret the more costly guitars, it is only because I can afford not to, else they would have been sold by now. If I was going to part with more costly guitars, Gibson would be the first to go as it falls far short of the workmanship of the other costly guitars, such as Tom Anderson or PRS, both on the high and mid-priced models.

Relic, you are welcome to my house any time for a fun day of A/B playing and home cooking.

Sounds like fun! How far from NYC are ya??

I'm being tongue & cheek about it really & just taking advantage of the opportunity to fvk with Mr Ferengi (aka cheap-a$$ aka eSGeEsgSGeE). People should buy whatever makes them happy & whatever they are comfortable with! Some players actually aren't comfortable being seen playing cheap guitars. Some people feel something aditionally satisfying when they see such 'n such on the headstock because it it part of who they are & it fits their image & projected ego. I get that too.

In the end it really is up to what the individual likes. What everyone else thinks doesn't really matter. (unless you are somebody that cares about what other people think! Oh no! It's a vicious circle!)

You might have seen my obnoxious (intentionally) signature on another guitar Forum and think I'm a Gibson snob..

Gibson guitar list March 2017.JPG
While I have grown to be a Gibson aficionado & have taken to collecting & playing them as a hobby because I genuinely just like them & actually feel something along the lines of a fondness for these guitars, anyone that knows me can tell you I have been very critical of Gibson when they rightly have it coming! But that said, I've come to read the history & appreciate the name Gibson has made for itself over all these years. I liken it to a car guy favoring FORD, Mopar or Chevrolet. It is what it is & it probablyis too late for me! LOL

Fortunately, Gibson has really upped their game, made smart improvements & even corrected some things with their HP line that had kept me from buying certain Gibsons because of how they were made!!! In my mind, if Gibson would only loose the mandatory G-Farce auto-tuners on the HP line & go back to offering tremolo options on several popular models, it would go a long way toward offering a good highly playable guitar to a broader range of guitar player & show the world they have finally pulled Mr Henry J's head from out of his a$$!

But I do see you as a man of refinement, class & sofistication...

You flatter me! I can assure you, however, that my upbringing was not refined or sophisticated!

As for the guitar, I have a pretty good idea what I want. I do want a Les Paul Studio. There's just something sleek, fast, and uncluttered about them. My Les Paul Custom is my bling guitar. For this one, I'm wanting something a little more sleek in appearance - kind of like a shaved street rod. I also like the fact that since there is no binding, the Studios obviously have no nib issues. I do want a white one. I've always liked white Les Pauls. Also, I WILL finally put my never-used Kahler on this, as well!

I'm still trying to decide what I want for pickups. I really like Seymour Duncan '59's, but part of me wants to keep this as a Gibson project. So, I'm toying around with what Gibson pickups I may want to use. I already have the Classic 57's in my SG Original. I want something hotter and punchier than that.

I appreciate the ideas about Agile, etc. But, to be honest, I'm not as drawn to the look of their cutaway. The horn is too short and rounded off for me. This is really gonna sound cork-sniffery, but for a single-cut, solid-body guitar, I think the Gibson Les Paul has just about the most perfectly balanced appearance and proportions. I don't necessarily dislike others, and others have some nice features, but I really like the Gibson shape the best.

Since I'm not desperate for a guitar or anything, I'm gonna take the time to be picky.

I knew you were not trying to offend, nor would I ever be offended even if you meant it steadfastly. There was a time I felt that way and when I joined ETSG, I still felt that way. But that damn eSGe and some others made me open my eyes. So I went from a cork sniffer to a hoarder!

I am very close to NYC, and as I recall, you are close to a vacation home my parents have near the Catskills. We should recriit Tony and chill!!
