Here we have a Gibson Burstbucker '61 lead. These came stock in my 2018 SG standard. I guess they have alnico5 magnets. Anyhoo, I can't stand them. I swapped the '57 classic and classic + from my 2013 LP into the SG and it sounds awesome. These still sucked in the Lester. The Les Paul got SD Seth Lovers and it is awesome. So these have been sitting around for a long time and I am going to try swapping in alnico2 magnets hoping I will like the sound. We shall see what happens. I'm going to try winding some pickups in the near future so I figured this would be a good time to figure the things out.
Just changed the magnets and pulled the 57/57+ out and put these BB61s with Alnico2s back in. Seriously improved! They are definitely hotter than the 57s, but now have a similar type tone instead of just sounding hot and sterile.
I definitely have to repot them now. Hard to control the squeal even at moderate volumes.
Now I just need that gold logo from Russia. No word on it yet other than it shipped last month.
This Dremel bit cuts pickguard material like butter. I didn't end up using my router pattern. I traced around the stock cover with a pen, got it trimmed close with the Dremel, switched to a sanding block with 100 grit to get it to shape and then laid the sanding block over for the bevel. I finished it up with some scraping with my pocket knife.
I even drilled the holes by twisting the bit in my fingers and chamfered them with my knife again.
Now I'm going to file my finger nails into sharp points and go hunt a mountain lion with my bare hands!
