4 year side step to learn guitar....an old friend heard my new stuff today & said...the bass...i was like yeah still recording but not playin much. Discussing with my studio guy this CD..the theme....putting J's voice on top the guitar & the Bass line being solid-complimentary & at time driving. Each song has pre picked gear that sits right before we even record...wow has it made a dif..no soundman miracles...more time to focus on the mic placement...the texture vs when we used to just let it fly & then had a mess..like everything at the same EQ shelf..then He literally used to have to separate it all post recording. It is the dif this go round..totally rearranging gear & now its Bass time to feature..will bring the funk & think the Beginning to Sabbath..Lady Evil. or Papa Was a Stone by Temps..its time to Bass it up....i challenge my guitars now....got a lil somethin somethin for em..SVT time

Anybody got the new Ampeg pf50 tube head or mofset SVT Micro Vr with the sealed 2x10's ? those are very cool for studio am seeing..want to mic again, also..these units have DI out which Ampeg does got right..post & pre & mic up..thats how ya really capture it we found out

mic on cab
dry bass signal
post pre gain signal

MV way on Tube heads for the dynamics

been gassing for one of these

its is close on the matched cabs.... am right now debating for portability & in the house use....either the pf50 or that...the sealed 2x10 cabs are nice for recording the DI & mic cab gets close. used together.the pf50 has a great DI..also doesn't require a cab..i dig the sansamp DI lately..but Ampeg capture is my real tone..it does matter on octave moves & it can be all things rock or subtle finger jazz. That is where i feel the tube head into the tiny cabs could be very very much a recording weapon...

major food for thought after mucho gear wars. In my case,,,fender combos-open back & Ampeg-sealed cabs....that is my new spread. Always was guitar closed-bass closed with ports.. Now with my double sub supported PA for live gigs..the sealed SVT type bass cabs..set em anywhere ya want..if ya drummer is a gig freak aim it at him towards the guitars stacks lol...the bass is contained & the PA & stage monitors distribute it evenly,,the open guitar rig now 3d fills & being tilted back-allows me to open it up in the zone & its a killer stage monitor vs my sealed cab poking ya in the head like an icepick being so linear or the poor person in audience sitting in its path...this is just from experimenting last 2 years from down time & actually a/b ing..taking the time to set up live at volume & mix a good stage..totally ready to go if we are allowed one day...
