IMG_7044.jpegIMG_2042.jpegHi All,
I’m Scott Baxendale, I’ve been a professional luthier/musician since 1974 when I dropped out of the university of Kansas and went to work for Mossman Guitars in Winfield, Ks. Later I worked for Gruhn Guitars in Nashville and then I purchased Mossman Guitars in 1985 and moved the factory to Dallas where I produced Mossman Guitars for 5 years. By the late 90’s I was working in Denver for both the Denver Folklore Center and Robbs Music in Boulder. In 1999 I started the Colfax Guitar Shop in Denver which I sold in 2010 when I moved my shop to Athens Ga. In Athens we perfected my proprietary remanufacturing process which turns old department store acoustic guitars into world class sounding and playing guitars yet keeping the old patina this process is now a trade marked process called the “Baxendale Conversion”. In 2021 we moved Baxendale Conversions to Santa Fe, NM and joined up with Stay Gold Guitars who are the exclusive dealers for the guitars we remanufacture.

In the Mid 80’s I worked for the Hard Rock Cafe and built two 34’ guitar bars and I also curated and serviced their guitar collection which gave me the opportunity to have hands on experience with some of the most famous guitars in rock history, including Jimi’s Monterey Flying V and Buddy Holly’s J-45. This relationship allowed me to build custom guitars for many famous players such as Carl Perkins, Joe Walsh and James Burton among others.

I also build custom guitars from scratch. In my career I’ve built around 400 custom guitars which are mostly flat top acoustics, but I’ve also built a few electric guitars, mandolins, and basses.

My passion has always been playing and recording and I’ve spent WAY TOO MUCH MONEY on studio gear and guitars. I currently have a full professional studio in my garage and should be looking on selling some of it off soon…..lol.

I’m having trouble posting photos because it says the files are too big? Do I have to resize every photo to post here!

Yes, there is a size limitation as full-size photos taken with something like an iPhone consume a lot of server space. I usually use paint.net to resize photos. If I resize them to 20% of the original size they usually are fine. Or, you can put them on another picture hosting site and hotlink them here.

Also, @Scott Baxendale ,whereas this forum is usually called a "guitar forum" by most folks here, in reality, it is more than that.

It is a music forum, not just a guitar forum.

So, feel free to post up pics and stories of your mandolins, too!
Don’t forget…. We also talk about food and grilling. Our dogs and cats. And the subject of derailed trains seem to come up a lot. :pound-hand:

If the tone rooms was mostly about tone, id've been run outta this place years ago!

Welcome Scott, it would be nice if you came here with a little more guitar cred, but you're welcome to stay along as you keep an open mind and are willing to learn
