I Had A Dream Last Night

Ok. Been awake for awhile now.

My thought was…. Is the amp a “big” amp?We all know that up on stage, size does matter.

I miss the money, i really do. During our band's heyday i was earning $2,000/week just from the band alone, but that was also for 6 night's a week worth of work.

Everyone else in the band was wealthy and just played around with it for fun, but for me, this was how i paid my bills.

I lost a lot on a personal level during that time. To this day, i find it really difficult to play with a band because i don't trust people.

I was always the one doing the most work, smoothing out ruffles, keeping the peace, trying to keep the band on an even keel. After 2-1/2 years of that, i just didn't have anything left, professionally or personally.

In the studio, my relationship with clients have boundaries. Im like a musical prostitute. I never have to develop trust with my clients.

If they "flake" and are a no show, its on to the next project in the queue. In a live band, its a different story.

I've had to deal with a guitar player and a singer canceling the day of a pre-paid, 6 hour live show. I had to figure out a way to cover the missing personnel and it was one of my best - and most difficult - performances.

I would never want to go back and do that ever again.

Twice a year, on 4th of July and Christmas, i play with two bands, but im not out there gigging like i was.

You make far more in the studio sessions for far less actual work time....

That you are not playing enough....when you gig hard enough, you won't think about music... you'll instead find things like nature and bird watching of greater significance.

Well, I am playing more now than I ever have before.

But, it there has been a lull lately. Are you saying we need more gigs?

Incidentally, we also have several bird feeders and I watch them quite a bit!

It means next time , use that amp!
I do have a favorite amp...

The Ivanberg Hot-Rodded Origin 50 through my custom 2x12 (Celestion Copperback 250's) is probably the best sounding rig I have ever used. My 1993 Marshall Bi-Chorus 200 Head gets Honorable Mention.

You know, it's ironic that the past few live shows I have played, I was not able to take my preferred head/cab/board due to logistics of having my family travel with me in the same vehicle. I ended up taking my 1999 Marshall MG50 due to space considerations.

This was the amp I used at the December 18, 2021 Christmas Show at Rockstars of Tomorrow and the July 3, 2022 Mountain Jamboree in Forrest Falls, CA.

Despite being a very unglamorous amp, it is very compact and reliable. We used it as a back-up in Bad Dog and it also served as our keyboard amp.

When I was gigging, I was fanatical. I regret that now, because while we did enjoy good money, I didn't realize at the time that I was alienating my wife. I'm almost afraid to play live shows again, because it's so intoxicating for me.
