I finally found a EVH song I like or is it Vai ?

I forgot how obsessed Vai was with Van Halen in that time. It shows.
To me Vai sounds rehearsed and kinda rigid like he's reciting exercises. Eddie would play unbounded like he was literally an extension of a guitar ..very spontaneous and natural. I don't think there is a guitarist that I've disliked more than Vai since the beginning way back when. He IS a showman though I'll give him that. I've just never had it for that guy, I guess. Of course I don't like Satriani, Yngwie, Eric Johnson, John McLaughlin, or most of the other of those types either.

I can understand that.
I always hoped Ed would break out of the mold. The type of music was to me formulaic. He was experimenting but with Roth it rarely deviated from the vocal driven song structure.

In other words had his ego let him break away from even his brother and got in to metal style band that would have been interesting.

I do know it's hard to disrupt financial success especially when it worked for so long.
I do also understand his bond with his brother .

I've always thought VH was simple bee bop kinda rock band. Their only appeal to me was Ed's constant jamming and guitar technique inventions. As soon as Ed got off the guitar and onto keys their music got much more dynamic and ...musical. I don't think he wrote very well musically on the guitar, but on the keys he was fantastic. I thought the key based songs on 1984, 5150, and OU812 were fantastic. That's when they found "song writing".

That is where our opinions differ widely.
His song writing might have improved but he lost me even further at that point.
It's a funny thing about keyboards in guitar music. Most guitar players can't stand any type of keyboard.
I'm not like that. For Instance, Rush got so much ridicule for the keyboards. It never bothered me at all.

Same for the UFO album with Danny on keys. Most fans did not like the recording. I did like it a lot.

Really depends how they use the keys. I really can't think of anything I didn't particularly like on keys. However, the nerd with the "keyboard tie" on dancing while playing them has always looked hilarious. Lol.

The thing I love about EVH is that some of his riffs, no one can replicate. Forget Eruption. Summer Nights is one that I have yet to hear anyone play the same as EVH. Satch even sucks the ever life out of that opening riff. I watched Chickenfoot play it a few times and he just can't do it. And if Satch can't do it, ain't NO one doing it.

I guess I'm the only person in the world that couldn't give a rat's ass about EVH. I tried, but I just can't.. meh.
No, you are not alone in that. But the numbers are against you. Lol
I just hope to find the song.
I am guessing thar it was Vai that I heard now that I think about. His tone and some of his riffs, or Ed's riffs. Lol

No, I'm with you on that one Steve. And I'll go one further, and this is probably blasphemy to a lot of you guys over there, but if KISS was playing in my garden I wouldn't even open the curtains.
Funny...I've been on a KISS collectable buying spree for a week now. I REALLY do need to slow ...to a F'n stop. With this,... I hate Gene and Paul with a passion and I would get 0 excitement about a concert and would not even go if it was free. So what does this mean? I think I'm personally just trying to scratch a very old itch from my childhood when I could never do such things.
