I Called It Quits Today After 7 Years:

Well, guys...

After 7 years with the studio, I resigned today. In 7 years I have commuted 291,900 miles. Today, I will make my last drive home from Hollywood.

I've made a lot of friends in this business. I left on great terms with a handsome severance package and a professionally catered going away party, the latter two of which were completely unexpected.

At the moment, I am only still affiliated with the band "Outfall," and I have (politely) broken professional ties with all other musical ventures at this time.

I have one performance (already contracted) coming up on July 24th, which will be a large, outdoor event up in Angelus Oaks, California. I will be performing with a musical colleague's band on that date.

Currently, I want to finish my 8 song CD - if nothing more than to be able to say, "There. I did it."

I'm still on the payroll for Outfall and I will remain on board with them until we have completed the new album. We are over a year into working on this project.

Beyond that, I'm not sure where I will end up. I'm not opposed to new opportunities and I've already had 3 full-time job offers (as touring guitar tech) in the past few hours following the announcement.

Don't be alarmed if I fall silent. I'm just taking a different path....

I know you're a busy Mofo, so this is certainly interesting news. With your musical skills, you shouldn't have no problem finding a different musical path, or even get into hot rods or something like that.

So, was there a special moment recently that guided you towards stirring things up?

Are you hanging up the guitar? good luck with new path.

Honestly, I feel like I want to do something that I really want to do. I've been supporting 3 bands, plus my full-time studio recording/voice over work. I worked continuously for 7 years and we never missed a day, even during the pandemic (things never stopped, they just went underground) so I'm ready for a little slower pace...

Yes. The drama in my band really did take the wind out of my sails...

I still wanna hot rod the Origin....

I'm just mentally exhausted.

Physically, I feel great, but pushing these bands, being the one who keeps them all together and running - driving 175 miles a week (round trip) to rehearsal (for just one band) and supporting three performing bands, that's got me playing 4-5 nights a week and most Saturdays too.

I'm just ready to take a break...

Robert, there's no moment like right now to start doing 100% what you feel and love... Believe me, it can be liberating! When you start seeing the things you once loved doing as just "a job", it's a sign that one needs to take a few steps back, look at the bigger picture find a new direction and move on. All for the better, Brother!! :cheers2:

I'm still getting up at 4am and devoting 2 hours daily to practice, so not only do I intend to keep my skills sharp, I'm also drilling on Yngwie licks and hand synchronization exercises, because I feel like my playing had hit a "wall," and not only was my playing totally peaked and stagnant, I really didn't have time to learn new techniques because of my work/rehearsal schedule.

Congrats on a change. It takes a brave person to change directions. Good luck to you. With your work ethic I'm sure what ever you do will be spectacular. Please continue to keep us updated and post your music here. I enjoy it a lot.

I'll be appearing here with "No Surrender" on July 24, 2021:

Hard leaps are fun. I've been there too. All my best in you regaining the peace and sanity we all deserve. Too many years I chased money, and even managed to catch up with a little sometimes too. But, ironically there is a price to be paid to do that, and it can really wear a fellow down.

Definitely don't blame you.
