Hybrids

I have that stop/ start cycle on my Santa Fe, i have always kept my off switch on so this doesn't happen. I always realized this is hard on your battery, engine and starter. this is why i got 6 years out of my battery. The batteries are more expensive with this feature.

My hybrid doesn’t restart the engine with the starter. It fires the spark plugs. It does so from an “accessory battery” that is fairly expensive to replace because it is a “deep cycle” marine battery.

I think mine works the same way. You don't here the starter turn over, just hit the gas and you go. $600 for my battery, its because of the feature stop/start. The guy makes really good points how hard that is on the engine. I am not interested in a Hybrid, gas only for this guy.

That special battery also keeps the heat/a/c on while the engine is not…plus lights, radio, and the rest of the junk.

I'm not opposed to electric cars but

Until we make all electricity from non fuel sources:
There is no advantage to an electric car VS a gasoline car.
The gasoline is still more efficient and more cost effective.

Get over this hump: make electricity without any fuel, then you finally gain some advantage.

Fuel > power plant > transmission lines > Your Garage > car charger > Car.
You have lost 63% of the energy between the power plant and the car.
It's 37% efficient.

2018 Buick. Has the start/stop thing. Six+ years and counting without a single issue. And yes. I know at 6 years we’re approaching end of life on the battery. Not from the start/stop feature…. Just age.

I also realize our Buick is not a hybrid. Straight up gas powered engine.

Grow plant, get dinosaur to eat plant, plant and dinosaur die. Wait a few million years, waste a lot of money digging holes because you can’t remember are the dinosaurs and plants are, extract the fuel, refine it.
Yeah, way more efficient.
We have hydro electricity, here, cheap, non polluting and renewable, maybe that’s way some countries are trying to invade us

I did apologize for that invasion thing. Sorry it's not what we wanted..

But if you have hydroelectric, you escaped the fuel problem.
Not so much the case in the states unfortunately.

In the USA hydro accounts for 6.2% of generation. Most of our power is made from burning fuels.

No problem I was just being sarcastic.
