Damn RVA, I admire your patience. Working with wood, stain and paint is not my thing. Hardware and electronics I like... but I'll buy a used guitar that's painted already because I don't have the skills to build one from almost scratch. I am enjoying watching you do it successfully. Nice work! Thanks. So I have been dry sanding with 400 grit between each day of coating so far. That is 5 days of coats, so 4 sandings. When I am done, I do progressive wet sanding, the plan here being 600-800-100-1200-1500-2000. Since that is a lot of grades, I wanted a thick shell to protect against burn through. So I was going to go for 1 more 400 dry sand and coat. Does that make sense?

Thanks! It should get even better when buffed to a shine!Wow! That thing is really poppin' now! Love the color and the wood grain.
Thanks Bocca!Ya mon, so nice. It's like steroids for the wood grain. Love it. That guitar looks fantastic just hanging there without hardware.....it's going to be amazing when complete. This is turning out great.
Thanks! The FB is bone dry in the photo, but the final sand knocked the glare off the body too, so in the end they match quite wellComing along nicely, and looks like the fretboard will match the body very well once completed (oiled, I presume?).
OK, 2 things I can share, one was recommended in a Youtube tutorial and one I thought of (at the end!)
1. From Youtube: Warm the can of poly by placing it in warm water before applying. It flows thicker and more smoothly
2. From my brain: Wear a headlamp while applying the poly, especially with inconsistent lighting. You always have the right light angle for seeing the coat being applied
No, aerosol spray can, although the headlamp works for eitherBrush application???
