Hurricane Milton

Well, my brother finally decided to get out. He (and the dog) drove up to Jacksonville today so now they are all safe. My sister in law, their disabled son and my Mom drove up yesterday and he was going to stay and ride it out. I'm glad he got smart and left. Now we're all just praying the new house they had build and just moved into in April survives. None of the rest of my family are in an evacuation zone.
Excellent. Tampa may not see the worst now. If it moves onshore further south it'll still get walloped, but the winds from the NW will push water out of the bay.

The future isobar numbers below are not intended to be accurate, just storm location.

I didn't want to get my hopes up just yet as it can still change it's mind, but I saw that and it's great news for Tampa if it hold up. *fingers crossed*

Sorry to hear this Steve. I know rescue efforts are horrible there as much as they are being played off and foolishly ignored by many. I and a lot of people realize what these people are going through as far as help and rescue, or a lack there of it. It's great to hear that at least the people are bonding together to do the best they can in such a horrible situation. The diversion to theory and mathematics here is also a real shame, I should add. Hope all continues to work out well for you and yours, considering the unnecessary added frustrations.

South of Tampa means closer to Adrian, right?

No, He's in Lakeland, almost 40 miles east of Tampa and well inland.

See Land O Lakes?...that's where I grew up. I used to go fishing in Tarpon Springs. This map is pretty much my old stomping grounds. ...good times.

I sincerely hope that everyone makes it through this alright. Both Adrian, and Hack, are on my mind…amongst other friends that call that area home. I’ve heard from one friend, that fuel for escape is scarce…particularly diesel. They’re stuck now, at a RV dealer/service center, just north of the projected carnage.

This is going to be a mess... The barrier islands in Sarasota, Manatee & Pinellas counties were wiped out by Helene less that 2 weeks ago.
By wiped out I mean completely covered in water and sand due to storm surge. Many musician friends have lost everything.
Cars flooded, homes flooded, gear lost & destroyed and now they get to go through it all over again.

Roads heading north have been heavy with traffic since Monday.
Stations are out of fuel along the evacuation routes. Bridges to the barrier islands have been closed.
The time to have left is over. Thunderstorms are happening now 7:45am in Manatee county.
Eye wall is expected to make landfall in the late night / early morning hours somewhere in Manatee or Sarasota county.

Hopefully we're far enough inland that storm surge won't be an issue, but the wind sure will be.
Tonight will be hairy.

Equalizing pressure between inside and outside will prevent the building from exploding.
Same in a tornado.
Closing / sealing the doors and windows is the worst possible thing you could do.
pretty commonly known that if you open doors and windows the airflow through the house can pressurize the inside and peal the roof off. All depends on the airflow rate in and out of your house. Building codes prevent houses from being 100% sealed between outside and inside air, which debunks the notion that the "pressure" difference will cause the house to actually explode.

Easy on the Mythbusters. They may look Hollywood but a lot of their production is highly steeped in Science and real scientific methods.

It's gettin' real now.

Storm is still 100 miles offshore as of noon today and it's getting ugly.
Manatee / Sarasota area is still the landfall target.
Wind & rain has really picked up.
The storm has spawned several areas of "tornadic activity" in several counties.
All local bridges closed as of now.

Been chattin' with Adrian. He's done all he can to prepare.
He's taken some of the critters indoors during previous storms, but he's got a cow now as well, so the ark may be full.
Goo has also checked in with me.
Hoping for a less than tragic outcome.
Peace

Be safe Brother!

My family( Tampa & Sebring currently) all went to my Sisters in Jacksonville. Crazy every year it seems . My grandparents built one of the first houses in a community going out the canal into edge of the Gulf in 70's in Homosassa . I literally woke up as a kid & hopped in the boat & was in the Gulf in mere minutes & the year after they moved that whole community was under water after it was leveled . Cant remember what year, thinking 80's sometime. Most beautiful place i ever was. Grand dad just sensed something that year & they moved up to Ocala.

My prayers of safety to everyone in the storm,

Looks like the eye is moving off FL and into the Atlantic. I know parts of the east coast will still be dealing with surge for most of the day.

Haven't had TV on, so don't know the extent of damage on the Gulf Coast. Have not heard yet from our friends that live in Sarasota. One was already in Ohio and the other boogied out and headed north on Monday.

Haven't had a chance to communicate with Adrian. How did you and your area fair as this thing moved over the top of you? Hoping all is good for you.
