Lol I never understood that whole Toilet Paper thing that went down. At no point was that ever a major factor in it: Montezuma's Revenge. But I'll be damned if the black market didn't open it's jaws and swallow the world whole on that one.

I remember just generally needing some toilet paper during the height of it and driving around to about 6 places, finding a sad lonely 4 pack of John Wayne Paper ( rough, tough and doesn't take $hit off of nobody!). Walked outside of Walmart and held it up high like baby Simba during the opening of The Lion King.

A week later I stumbled upon a 12pk of Angel Soft that a pallet had just been unloaded of at the store. Came home with it and my wife literally ran in the house, got on the phone with her friend and this chick shows up at my driveway about 10mins later and she gave her half of our stash.

But due to the whole social distancing bit, it ended up looking like the most pathetic and bizarre drug deal going down in broad daylight: my wife goes outside, sits it on the sidewalk, closed the door, the girl walked up and took it, then drove off all within about a 20 sec time frame. Neighbor across the street was staring out of her window on the phone, I'm sure to tell whoever it was on the line that we were hustling out of house lmao

The only thing in short supply at the beginning of the pandemic was common sense. There was never a TP shortage. Someone did the math based on TP some of what people were hoarding. A family of four would have to crap 3-4 times a day each to use up in a year+. Total stupidity.

Fortunately, we never had a problem. Just the two of use. We had just bought some. My store like all the others were out. But on one trip in, I think there was one pkg of the John Wayne TP and I went ahead and grabbed it. By the time we needed more, our usual brand was back on the shelf and haven’t had an issue since.

I always bought the 36 pack from costco. I may have bought 3 or 4 packs during that entire stupidity. If I lived alone, that 36 pack would have lasted me until ... around now. but for whatever reason women must floss with the stuff.

Early on in the pandemic I was able to click and checkout on a 48 pack on Amazon. Delivery was like 8 weeks. No issue, was just priming my supply chain pipeline (On a slow boat from China).

When they finally arrived the wife just laughed. On the right is a Costco roll.

One day I was shopping. My list included egged and garbage bags. This was several weeks into the pandemic. There were zero eggs…. Which, ok… things happen. But the one that baffled me was there wasn’t a garbage bag of any brand or size on the shelf. Maybe all that TP was getting bagged rather than flushed?

The other one that serious ticked me off was Tylenol. Thanks to a bleeding ulcer episode, pretty much all I can do is Tylenol now. Some moron in Europe reported that ibuprofen was killing people if they’d contracted the virus. So shelf full of aspirin and ibuprofen and not an acetaminophen to be seen. That one lasted for a couple months or so before things returned to normal.

And there never was a shortage. TP manufactures said they had TP coming out of their….. well you know….. problem is it was not the consumer model but what they make for public restroom. Warehouses full. Different sizes. Won’t fit TP holder in homes.

I remember two goonie brothers down in Tennessee started buying every available roll of toilet paper, 3 ply masks, antibacterial wipes and a staggering 17,700 bottles of hand sanitizer. They actually single handedly depleted all available products in the Chattanooga region and knocked out supplies as far north as Lexington, KY.

They were reselling that crap on Amazon for as much as $70 a bottle for hand sanitizer. Then customers started reporting them and not only did Amazon shut down their lil operation, but the state of Tennessee brought charges against them for price gouging as well as charges for disruption of emergency supplies. They ended up having to donate everything they bought up and it was then sent out to nearby churches and aide relief centers. They basically went broke lmao
