How soon USA forgets its history

I don't know that it's that we "forgot", per sé.
There was larger, more looming events happening at the time that were dominating the news across the nation, the balloon assault never really worked as intended and caused near zero damage anyway, and was otherwise unremarkable, given the times. For those reasons it is somewhat overlooked, and probably not taught in the classes that many students find the most boring and are less likely to be engaged in to begin with.
Had it been a success, we'd all know the story like we all know 9/11.
