How I come up with song ideas

I do very much similar things. I'll just start to riff around and see what works, and what doesn't.

took tour my house just now...here is what is oiut in the working process....have 2 bankers boxes full also...plus 3 binders & 1 binder with the set lists in clear sleeves, it is prob over 500 songs

I don't have much of a song writing strategy. Riff, lyrics, etc just come to me and I kind of tweak/polish them over time. I don't think I've every really sat down and said I'm going to write a song.

I used to sit around with an acoustic and do it - leads, melody's, etc - didn't matter much what style.

I just hope that the top of my head riff I start with has some girth to it, then I fish around for parts to compliment it.
Then make it fluid and gell, I have no drum machine or anything else to prod me along, and no one to bounce ideas with, and my metronome is only my foot.
