How do you classify yourself, A Rhythm player, a lead, or both

If I had to pigeon hole myself into only one category I would have to say I'm a melody player.
I don't sing, so when I play, the melody has to convey the idea that I'm trying to get across.
It's a combination of chords and single note playing to combine into a song that is recognizable to my audience.
This is what I usually bring to open mics, and also usually a solo setting.

I guess I’m both. I’m the only guitar player in the band I’m in, so I have to do both. I’m also the singer, which I find complicates playing rhythm a lot... Thankfully we have a great keyboard player, so me simplifying the rhythm playing somewhat is not too much of a problem. Ideally I would want a situation where we had a second guitarist/singer who I could share lead vocal duties with and who at least could play rhythm guitar behind me when I sing. I wouldn’t have a problem with him sharing lead guitar duties as well. I have always done a little of the lead vocals in the bands I’ve been in, but I definitely find playing rhythm guitar a lot easier when I don’t sing. I like singing, though. I guess you just can’t have your cake and eat it too...

Noodler for sure, but I noodle toward the Lead side of the house...Rhythm involves too many chord shapes and such...

I am a noodler for sure. When playing at the house that is what I do mostly and most of it is more lead/melodic oriented. I actually prefer to noodle jam with others too - much more fun than playing songs...
