How Could I Make a P90 Hum Canceling???

Colleague asked me if I could do this.

I was thinking that I could put a dummy humbucker coil in the control cavity, but this might create interference.

Thoughts???

You could try the dummy coil and see if you like it. In my experience it sucks the life out of a P-90. A little hum is preferable to a dull-sounding pickup, and once the band kicks in it don't matter anyway.

No idea. I had a guitar once that had hum cancelling P-90's with dummy coils and I hated them, but I don't know how it was wired.

No idea. I had a woman once that had hum cancelling straight jackets with dummy coils and I hated her, but I don't know how she was wired.

You can put a dummy coil in series with the pickup, and it must be out of phase to the pickup winding.
The dummy coil should be a match to the pickup coil.
Or you can buy a 2 coil P 90 that is already made that way...

I was watching a Humble PIe Vid and could not make out Marriot's guitar model.
Is it possible your guitar is what he had? I am thinking not. It is similar but I think it is a different brand. Hard to tell for me.

Marriott's is an early Dwight that was made before they swapped the headstock shape.

Although cool, I'm not a super fan of the Batwing headstock. I do like late 50s and early 60s version better.

And then Steve Marriot switched to a long guard 335. I was lucky to see him in concert 1973 with Peter Frampton after that got my Les Paul Custom
