(Yes Don O basses have tug bars-- thumb bars.....and -- also FINGER RAMPS ;) )

Thanks to our good Friend @fretless ---I am trying something NEW today I have NEVER tried before--- a FINGER RAMP......the happy recipient of a generous --freebie "try it and see" offer I said--- WTF?!?!?!

ANd a few days latter said ramp--- whcih also contains a thumb rest (2 fer) ----showed up--
SIMPLE NO SOLDERING INSTALL (2 screws and a bit of shoving/wedging--so simple even I CAN DO IT--BEFORE COFFEE!!!!) and its on

The Black Bass of Jazz/Fusion DOOM has also recently gotten BLACKER with a set of DR coated BLACK BEAUTIES -----she is finding her soul......

the finger ramp is .....somewhat ODD.......I would say intrusive........it does make me back off my usual thunder finger bass percussiveness........which on a fret-less jazz is well....not really the desired "vibe" anyway -- -when I THUNDERFINGER it to mush and DIG IN so to speak the strings hit the finger ramp (perhaps my action is too low--- ??

never use done so if any one has tips and tricks are appreciated.

the beast is falling into total darkness

Do they make WHITE guitar metals I guess not the Strat needs MORE LIGHT to bring to the DARKNESS ......buwahahahahahaah

Adrian, that jazz is gawgeous!! Can you post a video? I would love to hear that beast in action!
Ill try and gets some when the critters settle down -- we have 9 puppies yammering and trying to move around at the moment.....Im also in the middle of redoing the amp wall (after one of the big dogs KNOCKED DOWN the last (overly loaded admittedly) shelving unit )---to be clear she sat "against it with her ass to scratch.......and SNAPPED the lower leg---causing the whole shelf to come down crashing....................................... ugh

She didn’t get hurt, I hope!

Never even heard of a finger ramp. Seems like a cool idea for on a fretless. For fretted, maybe not so much.
Especially for me - I play with a pick some of the time and it would really be in the way.
But for finger playing, a nice regulator for consistency of angle & attack.

eSGEe, sorry for the chaos with your shelves.
Glad the dog's okay and hoping nothing else was seriously damaged.
Gravity can be a bitch.

I love the blackout bass idea. How's the feel on those coated strings - is there any extra friction on long slides?
Tried some tapewounds back in the 70s and friction was made me switch back to regular.

No the dog was fine shes a big ol sturdy barrel chested 90lb er --thanks for asking though

luckily it was a slow ...lean into the amps...and topple -- nothing damaged ---

just a much needed clean up and purge of things that had COLLECTED over the years and mostly......dust......

thanks for the compliments fellas.

ES the strings are round wound essentially but the black coating DOES create a tad of friction ---slightly more than a standard round wound --but nothing like a tape wound (that stuff will give ya rope burns!!!) and not as "sticky" feeling as "half-rounds" (which I dont care for at all)
nothing like the smooth glide of a flatwound ---

so they fall in the middle a little darker tone than a round wound-- but-- not as dark as a flat -- so quite a nice "mix" between the two --

they have a good tone -- still getting used to the neck and getting it dialed in with the new string gauge......all in all for what it STARTED life as its a great improvement-- and -- in time perhaps upgrades to the pots/pups etc MIGHT occur though they are certainly not needed it booms well

just got everything re situated for the most part and got my fake "old" school radio out and hooked up ....sounds like old school transistor ASS but--its quirky and fun.......maybe IT WOULD BENEFIT from the ORANGE 6" speaker?>
hhmmmmmm

went with a MUCH larger sturdier shelf -- weighted at the bottom with ammo cans and coin holders and wedge in by the Hartke and wall......I dont think she will topple this one!!!
