High-pitched squeal from amp - with gain and volume

I am 95% sure I located the problem pedal (the time prevents me from testing at high volume settings to be more sure). It probably will not surprise anyone to learn the it was the Empress Buffer Plus, which has a loop and is like having a buffer in the begining and end of the chain. It is my understanding that Fuzz hates buffer!!

Before, after, or both? Must have to something with pedals based on certain germanium transistors. My Rangemaster can make my overdriven amps sound viciously sweet. But if there is a buffered pedal in the chain before it, that Rangemaster will unleash the Bees of Hell upon you.

This has a loop for the chain, so it was both before and after

So all my solutions seem transitory and variable. Th only consistency I can discern is that VOLUME causes squeal. The volume can come from anywhere - pedal volume, pedal gain, amp master volume or amp channel volume. Sometimes it seems worse than others. It appened on all amps, then none, then some. It is a bit misleading to say it happens without any signal since there is an entire chain plugged into the front end of the amp, terminating at the wireless receiver, which is on. This would mean that the output of the pedal chain is going into the front end, but is not being driven by pickups. With this much hardware around a room full of unrelated electronics, I have little hope of isolation. In any even, VOLUME is the key to the squeal, so in that regard, it is contained.
 
I’m sorry to hear of this difficulty. I wish I could think of a quick fix.
Maybe try to keep it simple for a while.
Like, whatever dirtbox you want... only one or two out front. Whatever one or two time based/modulation effects in a loop etc.
Maybe stay away from fancy patching, and wireless, for a bit...and rebuild from there?
Keep cables, and power supplies in check, and at a minimum, while you do a reset.

I tried to re-set by changing the power tubes. More aggravation. I have jus about had it! Any clue about this one?

Bias - need more help
 
To update this thread, I decided to put this amp through more tests. Without a guitar, on clean, there is zero squeal or feedback with the channel volume and master volume on 10. Same result with the Zoom g5n multi-effects processor in the loop. With volume and master at 75%, and a high gain pedal set with the level high, there was squeal only when not touching the strings, which was affected by distance of the guitar from amp, and which was made DEAD quiet by throwing a noice gate in front of the gain pedal.

This amp seems fine, and while my limitless pedalboard is fun, I need a new plan. This is not new news, but I may soon be starting a pedal board rebuild thread!
 
Congrats on finding the amp itself is functioning properly!
I find it very easy to boost the input signal into uncontrollable feedback.
I may be one of the only guitar playing things I am good at. :blink::blink::blink:

That was part of my shtick.

Those sheep above clapping and hi-fiving is a much more demonstrative and effective communications platform.

I have had issues with media too. I will look into it
