I have a Traynor YCV4050 tube amp. At has a gain boost on channel that is just way too over the top. I wondered if any of you smart people could tell whether the boost is simply adding half a tube in or some other circuit....
Was hoping to change tube to say an ECC823 or such and maybe reduce gain just when that switch is engaged.

Is this sufficient?
There is also a link to service manual with actual schematic. I have looked but cannpt seem to find that switch.

Looks like an LED. I suspect it would be way too much work to make that boost less especially for a novice. Not a biggie.

The boost is V1B and V2A....
The switch turns on a relay that directs the signal to the boost.

These are the first 2 smaller tubes, closest to the input jack.

So if you want - you can change the first 2 preamp tubes to: low gain tubes.
12AX7 = 100
12AT7 = 60
12 AY7 = 40
12AU7 = 17

OR you can change a couple resistors to lower V1B V2A.
But this involves SOLDERING ! :eek:

Too bad it is half of each tube. I need gain still without the boost on. Possible change V2 out to an ECC823 (or 832 can't recall how that works) so V2b is low sensitivity.
I certainly wouldn't change both out. No point in changing componenets on the board for me.

When I looked at schematic it showed LED4 ON when boost engaged which led me to believe it coild be LED clip.
I will try the tube.
It's pretty easy to get around, realistically. Don't use onboard boost and simply push it with an OD up front.

I will start by changing out a tube n see. I can soldrr, just don't wanna go to that degree with this amp.

I had an ECC823 here so V2b is like 29 where side A was 95. Worked really well. Such a pain to get at though in this amp. It really needs a presence control, it is so dark. BUt the new PEQ comes today!!

Dude that was a cool idea.
ECC823 / 12DW7 is u100 on one side, like a 12AX7.
And u17 on the other side, like a 12AU7.

If it was easy enough I kight but as I said, there are other ways around it and no deal breaker.
I saw LED and assumed LED clip but of course it means the LED indicator. Duh!
Thanks for that I couldn't figure where it ran.
