Hey eSGEe - A Cousin to the BluesHawk

I was able to play a NEW Epiphone Blueshawk today------ I can say without a doubt ......and I am 100% certain in this ....the Gibson (to me) feels, plays and sounds better.......

the tuners on the epi where not great --- and the "dummy" pickup actually BANGED AROUND inside the cavity when you moved the guitar around.........uhm............no.
Also for the 600.00 asking prices.........uhm no--- now that said......if you where to score one used. ..in the 300.00 range then ---well o.k. but 600........I was not impressed.

I am glad you had that experience to help reinforce your appreciation for the real thing.

I bought a guitar and case that had a strong smell of smoke. I put a big bar of fragrant soap in the case. 6 months later it smelled like it just got out of a shower all the time!
Another trick is to get yourself a small amount of "Siam Benzoin Resin" & sew it inside of a small cloth bag. Throw this into the case with the guitar & leave it in there. Siam Benzoin resin possesses that same "heavenly vanilla smell" that we all love about new gloss finished USA (but not custom shop) Gibsons & their TKL cases. You can also get "Sumatra benzoin resin" which also has that heavenly vanilla smell, but with a hint of cinnamon. Both types are sold in small, 8 or 10 gram amounts by incense suppliers. Cheers

Edit; throw some in all your cases with the guitars & you can have all your guitars/cases posses that heavenly vanilla smell. Cheers

2nd Edit; Siam benzoin resin is instantly recognizable as "that smell". Also available in a liquid "extract of" form. Both Gibson & TKL have confirmed that they "apply" the scent, Gibson USA in the finishing process & TKL to mask the smell of adhesives. Cheers

This Sumatra variant will have the heavenly vanilla smell with a hint of cinnamon. Still very nice & will work well. The Siam (straight vanilla scent) is just as readily available. Both variant posses many beneficial properties, relaxative, calmative, astringent etc, etc as well as "enhancing creativity." Cheers
