Here we go again, up and down.

All day yesterday and this morning the membership number was holding steady at 630 members. It’s back down to 629. And yes, I'm aware that non posters get the boot after a certain period of time has elapsed.
How much time is allowed before they get the boot?

I'm really looking forward to welcoming member #666 in the future.

I think we need to do away with the automatic welcome threads. If someone is serious they will make their own introduction thread.
I’m not savvy to the whole workings of the entrance system…there’s a “spam trap” for the bots and such, but on rare occasions a spammer gets through(thinking about something along the lines of a “Veronica Bush” thread, or some such…if you’d seen it you’d remember ;) ).
A lot of the “one minute wonders” are here doing some sort of research on something or other. Popular threads for the non-poster signups are the “Origin 50 mods” threads, and the “homemade amp cradle” thread…those are the “MVP” threads for new members that never post…at least that’s what I see. We even rope the occasional searcher into posting one, or a dozen, times…then they disappear. Sometimes they stick for a bit, or come back on occasion and lurk the amp repair threads.
I don’t object to the “welcome” fishing threads.

I remember when there was a contest, many of the winners joined and they come back here and there. All great guys and girls. I have no regrets in the contest. I would do it again, even though I was not going to win from the start. It was fun and I learned a bunch.
I almost got to know that guy Tvvoodoodoo. lol

I remember that Veronica Bush thread! I didn’t know we had an amp cradle thread though. Or. I did at one time and forgot. It’s a good thing for the featured photos on the top of the page. I get to revisit old threads or see ones that I have completely missed.

All I was saying is I've been on several forums over the years and this is the only one that automatically generates a welcome thread for new members. Everywhere else has a introductions section where new member can introduce themselves if they want to. It's just that we see these welcome threads daily for people that never even post. It just seems silly to me, but I guess it's just me.

Agree

Yep it's a @syscokid thread…

It’s a darned good one too.
Lots of pic’s, and a PDF file for the plans.
I can see someone searching for a DIY solution that comes across that thread, and signs up to view the full rez pic’s and PDF.

A simple solution to the mystery of the non posting noobs…the first post of their welcome thread has a clickable link to pop up their profile…

You can clearly see when they joined, and when they were last seen. This one came back to lounge around a few hours after signing up. This one is probably a human. This one signed up, stayed for a few minutes, logged out, and came back for more.
Sometimes the welcome thread thing will entice them to engage.
