HELP!--

If the trip is not too far it may be worth the trip, may even get a factory tour. If I knew when you were going I may be able to get the nephew to use a little juice to assist you.
Ive been to the plant and pass it regularly--- they have an AWESOME free tour every Thursday at 2 pm/

great informative walk through tour and then you get to play in the SAMPLES ROOM and try all the DEAN goodies....and DDrum goodies and Luna Guitars goodies.........its AWESOME---got to play an ENTWHISTLE USA bass........like a 7,000.00 bass......I will NEVER own one-- bhut oh ---it was SWEET...

You rfamily member....he got a name? --- maybe he would allow me a longer stay in the "samples room" --- or a scratch and dent "back door" special???? One of them DEMON basses......perhaps ........???????? you got some 'splaining to do man.....

I am going to "monitor" the situation......this was a low dollar "Score" --- neck works--- sounds good--- if it stays good and solid and holds tune ....I might just leave it for awhile....I like the way it sounds and oddly the neck seats nicely now and action is decent.....

Im happy

dude ....the screw here is the same one taken from the guitar........do you see the amount of thread IN the body? ---
trust me its at least 50% threaded into the body and 50% in the neck......the "unthraded shaft" is minimal at best.....

Look at this,

neck repair 1.jpg

Red arrow pointing to slight cut in drilled hole caused by the screw. That's the kind of minimal friction area stopping the neck from coming away. You're a big boy now, you know what to do :-)

You're going to have to drill it out.

If it came to drilling it out :-( It shouldn't.
I'd clamp a pre drilled piece of steel plate over the broken screw and drill through the steel into the broken stud. The clamped plate should stop the drill from moving sideways into the timber. But don't drill all of the way to the neck or you would have nothing left to grab once parts are separated.

wiggle it some, it may come away or you may see it give a little indicating the threads are not biting strongly into the body.

But, if you are happy enough with it leave it be.

How long you been waiting to use THAT ONE Smitty?

I am 110% unanimous in the fact I "can" seperate the two (functionally---not with a Sledge-o-matic) but with wiggle/pressure/leverage and time based on the assistance and info presented here in this thread (thank you all)

I am also inclined, to do a little "experiment" if you will and see how long it functions fine--- or how long it takes for it to go horribly wrong.....documenting this for the great good and knowledge collective of the forum......so -- lets give it a week and check it-----so many possibilities....could there be neck twist? could it cause the other three screws to loosen...or SNAP..........could it cause me to play better? (buwaahahaha) or could it have zero effect at all......

Time ---will tell.......

WORST scenario I am replacing a neck.....or rebuilding another neck pocket (did that 2 weeks ago) so.....the WORST options are overcomeable---- lets see what happens.....

In the end, it’s your guitar. If it’s good enough as is, so be it. I’m sure that you, and it will function fine as is...unless you want to play standing up(unless you’ve already relocated the strap button).

F'n hammer it... and be done with it... :fingersx:

The point everyone is trying to make without saying it in so many words is that IT IT A LOT MOR FUN FOR US if you just tear it off and see what happens.

Look at it like squeezing that really big, sore pimple you have in a spot where nobody can see it: It might be best just to leave it alone (since it is hidden anyway), but there is always the satisfaction of just getting it over with...

But now that we know he has "that really big, sore pimple" we're going to poke and prod it, we must take pleasure from his pain!

You are aware of the fact that this is the revenge of the God of adjusting
things because of your "thing" with non adjustable dog ear pickups.

"AHA! He is going to try to adjust something.
Now I shall wreak havoc upon him."

Not as long as you may think. It just sort of came to me.

You can't touch this!

A quick, sharp tap with a rubber mallet is more what I had in mind...but I'm flexible.

But, there is always the positive way to look at it. When you're a famous musician doing your third world tour with that Dean guitar, and guitar magazines and Youtubers want to do a rig run-down on your gear, you can point out rather coyly that the whole time you've been playing your best solos and recording your hit singles with a guitar with a broken screw. Dean may actually make a signature model for you, complete with a broken screw in the neck.

Run with it, baby...run with it. Stardom awaits!
