Headphone Amps

Ok so I see all these 1 and 2 tube headphone amps. I guess they are for computers and iPads and the such. My question is, if you are playing digitized music which has been compressed what is to be gained besides volume? What am I missing. Keep in mind I am of advanced years and have not keep up with all the latest cutting edge trends in electronics.
 
I guess the tubes make it sound better. I was in a store in Toronto one time and they had high end turntables and pre-amps and speakers. The pre-amps had a mixture of modern technology along with vacuum tubes for a true sound. I guess that's all I know.:wink:

Reel to reel is HORRIBLE you need vinyl--- vinyl sucks you 8 track---that sucks hard---you need cassette cassette sucks you need cd.....cd sucks you need......

now they have brought us all back around to TUBE headphone amps and vinyl records......um COME THE FOOK ON

I bought and got rid of Zeppelin 4 on album 8 track, cassette (twice) cd and I will be DAMNED if I am buying it AGAIN on LP--- this is ridiculous

fight the MAN --- steel shite on youtube and the internet for free

Thanks for the clarification, I thought I had really missed something. Whew that was a close one. I have bought the album Super Session 3X because I wore it out listening to it so much.
 
I think all they would do is add a slight amount of tube graininess and a small amount of distortion to a signal that's already there. Basically, it would color the sound somewhat, for better or worse.

The tubes add distortion to make it sound like crap. Ignore all such products. There is no need these days for digitised music to be compressed. Massive amounts of it can be stored either raw, or in lossless FLAC format. If you want to hear the music the studio recorded, a decent solid state amp and a pair of electrostatic phones is as close as you are going to get.

They want you on LPs coz they're fkn EXPENSIVE. And I second all of the above.
 
I use headphones on my computer (whole house is wifi) for volume and mobility. Here's MARKETING: Been thru 2 pair Plantronics for $80 apiece at amazon. Went for me 3rd pair, and they were $188. Scratched my head, looked around the store-I'll be damned-Plantronics "gaming" headphones, mic, wireless, had some orange on em but who cares for $34. Exactly the same. I had more than a few words to computer (no one else here).
