"He changed the F'n Instrument"

Got to love listening to Pete!

"The girls all wanted to F'k the singer or the drummer. The singer because he was gorgeous and the drummer because he could last longer!"

What a band the Who were. They still excite kids on first listen the way modern artists simply don't.

2 true stories that illustrate this from my life.

1. My high school friend and I used to hang out at his house doing random things. One day I remember him taking me on an adventure of sorts. This would have been around 1982. Anyway, we got in his car and drove a couple miles to a little town where he took me to a video rental store. We wound up trying to rent a WHO VHS tape but ran into a road block. The guy at the store said we needed a credit card or a $100 deposit. Needless to say, we had neither.

2. The WHO were coming to the biggest arena near us but down near DC. This time my same friend said he'd try to get us tickets.
For this show, one could buy up to 10 tickets at certain ticket outlets run by Ticketmaster. After he made the trip, he arrived at my apartment to tell me the result. He then said, " I have good and bad news, which do I want first?"
So, I said ok tell me the good news. He said, he could have gotten us 2 in the 3rd row, but then said when he asked if he could get the 2 in row 3 and 8 elsewhere, he was told he had to get all 10 in a place farther back. So, it turns out he got the 10 with 8 tix going to people he knew, and we wound up a good distance from the stage but in the center.

Story 2 continued.

The Who announced a 2nd show for the next night. This time all tix would be sold at the venue only, and 4 ticket max.
I took a day off college to go early before the place opened. As I waited quite a few hours before the tickets went on sale I was given a number at some point and eventually directed to get in 1 of 4 lines around the building in the order of the number handed out to us during the wait time. I wound up number 34 in the line I was put in. Then 2 guys from my High school who were farther back asked if I could get them 2 tickets essentially eating up our 4 ticket allotment. I agreed to do so, and they were happy to get closer seats. For this service they paid me double the ticket price thus essentially paying for us to go free for 2 consecutive nights.

Now when it came time to tell my friend Dave about my result getting tickets. " well, it wasn't 3rd row, but 8th row would have to do." So, on the 2nd night we wound up right in front of Entwistle and needless to say, he made a permanent impression on me from the age of 18. Oh, and I could not hear right for 3 days after those 2 shows.

X2

Entwistle had such a synergy with Moon too. Just listen to his melodic playing on Behind Blue Eyes and the lead style in The Real Me
