Has Anyone Taken an Online Guitar Course That Really Helped Them?

Good luck, stay with it!!

I'm planning on taking a round of in-person lessons soon.
Hoping to sort out my mechanics, bad habits. etc.
There used to be a fair number of ads on local CL or Facebook marketplace, but now with the virus, not so much.

I second this site. They run a monthly challenge usually based on one of the lessons. I've participated in a few of them. You don't have to be a paid member to participate. His free lessons are great for learning simple tricks and leads. I've never been a paid member but paid members get more comprehensive lessons, tabs, backing tracks and more. If you like the blues this a a great site.
I'm a paid member and it is definitely worth it. I really like the fact it has a rolling tabs to each lesson and can be slowed way down.

If so, can you recommend a good one?

I want something structured.

I don't want to wade through random YouTube videos.

I don't like Marty, Justin, or Andy Guitar.

I don't mind spending some cash if the lessons are good.

Firsthand experience is what I'm looking for.

I've been looking at Guitar Tricks and a couple of courses on True Fire.

Personally, I have found my greatest progress to have come from personal instructions. Now, I’m not trying to project my experiences onto you and suggest it is the only way to learn. Far from it! And, I know finding the right teacher can be challenging. But, you may want to consider looking for an instructor, as well.

I also believe, the best is from personal Instruction, a good Coach gets to know you personally , get to know your weaknesses and strong points, and he or she can capitalize on these issues to make you a better player. Last year and this year has been a right off for me due to the virus. My Coach is not taking on any lessons, but I can't wait to get back, but in the mean time because of his valuable Instructions , I have continued to learn songs. I feel because of his teachings, It has put me in a much better position to learn new songs from the internet now that I have experience. Guitar lessons can be of some help from the internet teachings, but the best I believe is definitely personal Instruction.

What's the site?

Good grief!!! I forgot the link and just now got back here. Sorry about that. I edited my first post, but here is the link again. You just enter your email address to start getting the free mini lessons. If you don't like it, just unsubscribe.

GUITARZOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I tried most the well known youtube sages etc. I also tried guitar tricks I am an active member of Drumeo which I feel is worth the money, but I really found a connection with Steve from Guitarzoom so check out just a few of his youtube videos and if you connect well even at the slightest, I think you will find the investment worth it... it's for all level of guitarists and the site is well mapped out and easy to navigate for the most part. I like the practice routine coarse he has as it structures you in a way that you can build a heavy foundation and go from there... anyway, I have dumped tons of cash into online lessons and Guitarzoom is the only one I will invest in from now on..
Thats my 2 cents hope that helps...
P.S. Guitar tricks is okay but it's lacking and makes you feel like your in one of those elementary/ high school music classes DRY AND BORING!!!!
I think you will find GUITARZOOM! the way to go...

I like Steve Stine. I've used some of his free lessons on YouTube. I'm going to see how the site I just joined goes before I drop any more cash...

This site gave me free Pro Access due to my veteran status and it looks very promising!

It's run by Erich Andreas "Your Guitar Sage". The program is called "The Unstoppable Guitar System".

I would encourage anyone who is a Vet and has a DD-214 to upload check this site out!

Veterans Sign Up – Your Guitar Sage

yourguitarsage.com
yourguitarsage.com

This is FULL PRO ACCESS! Not some watered-down version and it's for LIFE!

I would show them my VA Id, but they want me to upload a copy of my DD214...I think I'll pass.

May I ask why?

Many places have asked to verify my Vet status with a copy of my DD-214. I just remove my SSN.

I don't know, I just don't feel comfortable doing that. I've had to prove Vet status many times and my VA ID was all I needed, the only time I've ever had to show my DD214 was to use my GI bill and to file my disability claim.

Just curious. I took lessons with Berklee School of Music on my Post 911 GI Bill and I had to provide my DD-214 so this was not new to me.

I don't even have a VA ID. I've never been to the VA. I have been to a couple of appointments the VA scheduled for my disability rating.

He may accept your VA ID. Shoot an email and ask. The dude is super nice. I saw in the comments where a vet forgot to upload his DD-214 and he was granted Full Access on his word...

Erich is a pretty good teacher I would say he is one of the better instructors, I was a member of his "yourguitarsage" I would pretty much put him right behind guitarzoom in my honest opinion.

I can't beat free with any other site!

Based on what you're saying, I would suggest trying Erich out with "yourguitarsage" see a few of his youtube videos first. Then I would check out Guitarzoom with Steve, view a few of his youtube videos. I would say the cost effective route would be yourguitarsage but! based on your quest to be structured and a pathway to follow I would use Guitarzoom, the only reason for stopping guitarzoom after surfing youtube and paying for other memberships was the 6 month memberships and not annual, so it's the more expensive option but I personally enjoyed that site above all the rest. There is a ton of content and pathways to follow, skill levels and if you need structure they have a course for that as well.. theres genre learning for blues/rock/country etc acoustic and electric guitar playing, backing tracks to play along with and song learning and break downs etc... I just connect with guitarzoom the most having been on yourguitarsage and guitartricks
I would also add that whats helped me is using (Ultimate guitar) for tabs and using the (tonebridge) app to dial in a specific tone, it's amazing how much your playing will alter or improve when you dial in the perfect tone for that specific song your trying to play, I think tone is one of the most important features if you are to imposter someone else you have to lock down that tone, it makes your playing conform as well.. And lastly what has helped me is using Karaoke-versions.com I buy the backing tracks and if they have the video I buy that as well. I can then run the files into my mac and isolate tracks, I can mute or lower track volume etc. then I am able to have a 3 piece band or more depending on the song and I can play along, this helped improve my timing for sure and using tonebridge you can dial in the exact tone no matter what your playing on, you may have to alter a few knobs but not much.
Away thats what I am rocking.
We all need that "structure" and new inspiration but if you can be sure to put a guitar in your hand each and everyday or like slash, have one in every room of your house even near the toilet that helps also :)
OH YEAH and one last thing. stop trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, you are unique and one of a kind, so remember that when you are trying too hard to get that part just perfect like you hear on the mastered track ( that took them some 100 plus takes) :)
instead put your own flare into it and always play how you feel at the moment or from your heart and try to always find the FUN! in it, if your about to slam your guitar down, your missing the point of the journey :)
I am a lifelong re-learner what the hell do I know :) hope some of that helps

Wow! Thanks for the in depth look at these sites and your experiences! I'll see how yourguitarsage works out and then possibly try Guitarzoom.
