Has Anyone Taken an Online Guitar Course That Really Helped Them?

If so, can you recommend a good one?

I want something structured.

I don't want to wade through random YouTube videos.

I don't like Marty, Justin, or Andy Guitar.

I don't mind spending some cash if the lessons are good.

Firsthand experience is what I'm looking for.

I've been looking at Guitar Tricks and a couple of courses on True Fire.
 
Guthrie Trapp has helped me the most. I have taken his free courses on YouTube. He has a full curriculum on Artist Works. It doesn't matter that he is listed as country...his philosophy is practical and translates into all music. It is based on the CAGED system, which works for guitar, unlike most theory. I posted some notable videos in The Classroom section

Watch the Danny Gatton Videos.
But it's funny how students try to filter the knowledge to exclude what they don't understand....
But yes, country western guitar playing can help teach people how to play lead rock guitar etc...
but most of the students won't get that far, and will probably ignore anything valuable that they could gain from it.
I think most importantly, you don't need to pay any money to learn a lot.
What you need to do is work at it.

Because you see playing guitar is work.
No matter what effects pedal you have ---no matter what guitar you play ----it won't make you a better player.
It has nothing to do with "knob settings" either.
It has everything to do with how much real effort you put into it.
 
Sorry i cant help you there or suggest anyone. I never took a lesson myself and couldn't possibly tell you where to begin. I just sat down with a guitar like a caveman learning to use hand tools for the first time and consistently played it until something began to click and work lol true story honestly

I've been trying that for 10 years and it's gotten me nowhere. I need some type of structured lessons.

I know it takes a lot of effort, but the random YouTube method has not helped me. I have also not found someone I click with yet...
 
I find I learn the most when I jam with others or play in a band. It forces me to learn songs not theory. Don’t get me wrong. I believe theory is very important. It helps me to jam and improvise. Playing with other musicians forces discipline which makes me play better. Without that I am all over the place. It forces timing and develops a sense of where the song is going. It forces me to think about the music, not my playing.
 
Another thing that would be of IMMESE help is to post videos and ask questions here, either in a post or a PM. It takes a bit of bravery, but there are so many talented friends here who I would be willing to bet would be happy to give helpful feedback. This would be to supplement your lessons and get some advice on your actual playing.

I'm not of a skill level to jam with others...

I've watched Robert and Mitch jam together and I have no idea how to play along...

You might be surprised in yourself actually. I played for about 3 years before i actually began to jam with others and ultimately got a band together. At the time, i had no sense of timing with others, no idea how to even approach a guitar solo and didnt understand placement in a song: like knowing your role and what parts to stick to while someone else played the others.


But, by doing so like @Kerry Brown said, it kinda brings out the best in you and it allows you to sorta steal from each other if you got another guitar player

It is scary at first but if you are with friends and don’t try to do too much you’d be surprised how well you do. If you can play barre chords you can jam. Turn your amp down until you are just heard in the mix and strum chords. Don’t overplay. You don’t even need to play whole chords. In fact it sounds better if you form the barre chord but only play three or four strings. If some strings are muted because you can’t change fast that’s perfect. Write down a simple chord chart so everyone knows what to play. I keep a notebook with 250 songs with just the chords and lyrics. For years I sat back in the mix playing chords. Once you develop a sense of timing you will be welcome at any jam I’ve ever played at. Keeping the rhythm going is one of the most important things in a jam. I leave the fancy playing to people who like doing that.

Actually my chiropractor (who also plays guitar and that's all we talk about at my appointments) recommended this site a couple of months ago and I checked it out. I haven't bought the membership yet, I plan to when I get more settled, but every few days I get an email with a free mini lesson vid and just that alone has already helped me.

I second this site. They run a monthly challenge usually based on one of the lessons. I've participated in a few of them. You don't have to be a paid member to participate. His free lessons are great for learning simple tricks and leads. I've never been a paid member but paid members get more comprehensive lessons, tabs, backing tracks and more. If you like the blues this a a great site.
 
There is a dude on YOU TUBE named Tim Pierce, he has a course called the Master Class.
Its not cheap @ $129 a year, but there is a 14 day free trial.
