Our beautiful cat Augustus (Gus) suddenly, and I mean literally before our eyes, lost control over his back legs this afternoon. We freaked and took him to VCA’s emergency room, where they jumped the line and took him right away.

Turns out he had heart disease that he was probably born with. A huge enlarged heart, where blood clots form in the chambers. Today, one of those clots got out and lodged in the big “V” where the aorta splits to send blood to the back legs. So we had to put him down.

So long, Gus. You’re the only cat I ever loved.

Thanks for the kind words, y’all. Gus had just turned two years old last week. I’m going to miss him every day for a while.

Mostly it’s just the shock. He was a happy guy all day until 3:30 when he suddenly couldn’t walk, and by 5 he was gone. I keep thinking I hear or see him.
