Guitars and BEER!

Not too fond of pilsners, but the guitar looks really good (and a nice thick comfortably looking strap too).

In exactly the same way as mine, the pickguard doesn't parallel the body cut as well as many SG Specials (SGs generally) do.

The strap is a Lemmy Kilmister signature strap, from Australia. It is very comfy.

That pickguard drives me nuts. I'll eventually make one that follows the contour of the body better.

I know what you mean.

These 2019 Specials are really nice, well made, very nice necks and binding, but they aren't perfect (the script, chromeness and bridge wind me up a tad - but, now you've got the pickguard on my mind too! :)).

Regardless, they play really well (although I'm not sure about the pickups; I'll give them another few months, but they may well be replaced in time. While I'm thinking about it, the circuit board has to go to...). But, despite all of that, they play great, look great and are fun.

Awh, feces... now you made me look closely at that pickguard more carefully... :BH:. Gawl-lee, that's just not right! The f'n screw hole seems to be in the way of a proper contour. Do you thing the bevel was exaggerated too much?

My guess is that they designed the SG with proper bevels, and did not research what they were using on more recent models with hardly any bevel. Then corporate gave the orders to run with it because no one would notice, instead of running a new batch of pickguards.

I've looked at replacement pickguards, and unless you do a custom order (or make one yourself like SG John can) then I reckon it means new holes...

As I said, these 2019 Specials are really nice, but they are very far from perfect; this is kinda everything good and bad about Gibson in one guitar. I've got over the thick lacquer, now I just consider the guitar a solid oxblood colour where, from time to time, if the lights hits it at just the right angle, I can see a bit of wood grain (a nice surprise...). :)

You mean that the whole specific model line is going to have this wart?

Yes.

If you get one from Terrapin guitars, you can get it without mounting holes. Then transfer yours before mounting. They also make custom guards if you make a nice template from cardboard. Unfortunately, you're in a different part of the world. I've gotten some nice stuff from them in the past.
