Guitar Strings 101

With Elixirs, the Polywebs have a thicker coating than the thinnest coated Optiwebs, with the Nanowebs somewhere in-between.
The upshot is that the thicker coated Polywebs 'fill in' the wound string windings more and result in a smoother feeling, quieter string when changing position.
Almost 'Jazz-like'.
The string 'scrape' is back now with the thinner Optiwebs.

Of course, the thicker Polyweb coatings dampen the high frequencies more too.

Yeah, I’m liking GHS since my recent migration to them from D’Addario. I think my Strat has benefited the most.

Way back in the ‘80s I had a Washburn Wonderbar on one of my guitars. I had a problem with string breakage on that unit. Boomers lasted the longest. For some reason, I got away from them, but recently came back when I discovered they have a set with a wound third.

So, I grabbed my Les Paul today and noticed I still had D’Addarios on it. That means that I haven’t played that guitar for about eight months!

I promptly restrung with the 10-46 GHS DYXLs.
