Guitar Gear Trends That Are Dying

(1) 6 strings have always been enough for me. Sometimes more than enough.
(2) I have zero guitars/bass with active pups
(3) Guess I'm old school. If I want the single coil sound I play my Strat or fake Tele. HB sound. The G400 or Viking. Pretty simple.
(4) I have two tube amps. A 5w Fender Vibro Champ and 20w Traynor YGM3. However. Don't remember the last time I plugged in. Been using my Boss GT1 Multi Effects box and plug in headphones. Have zero plans to purchase another amp of any flavor.
(5) Have felt a cabinet with a single 12" would match up nicely with the Fender. The amp does okay.... but the 8" speaker in it just sounds a little anemic.

The best gear is...what you are playing ! Work it

One observation.. full circle...am back to basics when first started... good guitar into a good amp with a fundamental tone for the music you are making or gigging..whatever is needed pedal wise to place properly in the mix

Maybe in the most relaxed music making spot ever,,, had the gear wars since Oct all over again but got a nice spread of guitar pickup wise & have 3 amps set & forget it... marshall-mig 50 (BF'ish) Bug 22 (voxish)

If was invited to gig or studio, know exactly what to grab..now that being said,,, have gotten out of my own head & outside influence to simply play more..yes always experimenting but the playing !! is where its at...kinda sound the same on all of it but notice the dif when the time is put in to actual music making vs comparing oneself... music is an amazing outlet in this wild world. I bottle up when not playing

On a sad note..after recording 9 song Our America... printing out all the tab for players,,again... got going ..memorized 2 full sets..had everyone over & playing...then the big Quit happened again on me... oh well... wish i just had 3 other peeps who want to work a lil & make some music

Haha, this kid talking about "back in the day" like he has any clue. I've been playing guitar for 47 years and seen more guitar "trends" come and go than this dude has seen seasons pass. It's all part of the evolution.

If you lived a little closer, I'd jam with you all day

Back in the day. Like 10 years ago? I have strings older than him. :rolf:
Kinda like music "back in the day." The term "classic rock station," sure means something different today than 20-30 years ago. Classic Rock was 60's and 70's rock. My stuff. Today classic rock might be 90's and maybe no older than 2000. My stuff....... called the "oldies" now. I can live with that. Still some of the best rock ever done!!!!

Things change, not always for the better. music is not as important to the newest generations as it once was so it’s hard to say what will happen in the future. As far as the video, had I not been sitting waiting for a train I never would have made it too the end.

I've been tweaking guitars for years for the customers in my shop, I think I saw all the good and junk available to man and kids.
I bought, sold, kept a wide variety of guitars, amps and gizmos for multiple lives ahead.
Now what I do is I pick a different guitar each day and play it for around two hours reminding myself why I kept it, for me, changing axe each day, gives me inspiration.

The best gear I owned , I've unfortunately sold. Best guitars , late 70's SG's. Best amps (for me) JCM 900 212 combo. A Mesa single Rectifier.

The ones that I almost purchased were better. A Aged finish white les paul custom. A Marshall JMP that had been moded.

When I had this other stuff I was not a gear hound or tone junky ( thanks to all gear forums ) lol

The trend now for me anyway is digital mixed with tube amp tracks for variation.
The tubes sound great but recording them in a small room is another story.
Attenuators help but it's not a total solution.

Marshall has always been my tone though I was never content with the flexability or lack there of with their amps and heads. I Needed a 4 channel amp but one never existed until later and still I personally wasn't crazy about the sound of it even though I bought it. The day I landed the Satriani signature model I never looked back and my tone/configuration hunt was over for good. I went through so many substitutes and kluged configurations trying make things happen for years. Finally that was over. I did end up getting an additional Satriani head in blue just because I had to get the limited edition model as well. I've never bought another amp since. Don't need to either.

I can care less what comes an goes because I'm all set. Now actually playing is another story. Lol.

Ya know, i got that JCM 900 Dual reverb..according to fake forum gods its the worst amp ever..my conclusion..they cant play right. It has killer gain & i mean right up 800 alley & then some & destroys its cleans... at any volume you need..not sitting out in the shed with a shield blocking it to use it lol . I love 800's & DSLs & plexi's but the 900.. it like right in the middle of old & new & has the tone... just put appropriate speaker on it for the music ya making
