WTF? I just received an email from GC that they are opening a new store. I would have thought that they might actually be closing stores.

I went to a Guitar Center for the first time in a couple of years last week and was shocked at both how much stock they had and how busy it was in the middle of the day.

We have a huge retail chain (not music related) that are closing outlets in an area BUT opening new bigger places in the middle of the closures. Concentrate into prime area, kill off the marginal outlets. That sounds like good business practice, not good for staff :-(

I used to live in Pasadena, and it was constantly busy for sure. Actually, it put Rose Music out of business I think. That was a great independent music shop, but they were just down the street and couldn't compete I think.

That was my favorite shop when I lived in Pasadena. Cool guys and they were willing to deal.

Can anybody here comment on any recent visits to Guitar Center and their current stable of employees? Has anything changed for the better?

I went to GC Brea and GC Fountain Valley earlier this year for the first time in 15 years. Brea was dead, but FV was pretty busy and this was on a Friday around 2 PM.

My recent trip there was spur of the moment. I found out they had a vintage 4x12 Jackson cabinet and I had to go grab it on a Sunday afternoon.

Pasadena is the GC location that ignited my resurgence into playing guitar again after a 40+ year abstinence. Actually it was my oldest grandson receiving a guitar for Christmas that got me gassing for a guitar again. Arthur Lee was my inspiration for getting a SG and GC was the closest place to go check one out.
