Guess what?

Do you like mullard's power tubes on It? Adjust it at 90mv with Svetlana power tubes it's an awesome amp. Using other tubes it's to much hot bias IMHO.
Mullards are just what I could get for a reasonable price.
I think there's only 1 Svetlana tube left around here. There have been a couple.....incidents....that some tubes didn't survive. I know I've dropped one on the floor myself, and a while back we had a cat run around the jamroom and it knocked a box full of tubes to the floor....lost a bunch of em, along with some other stuff.

Damn cat

Anyway, yeah, I don't have any complaints about the mullards, I just keep them just below 80mV, seems okay

This particular TSL has a history of burning up quite a few tubes in it's time as well lol
I have reason to believe it should be healthy now though. I'm still going to keep a close eye on things for a while yet though, just in case.

OH Blinky, NOW I am jonesing to hear the evaluation.
In the 20 minutes or so I played with it, it sounded pretty great! I'll mess around with it more a bit later tonight. I want to get it good and loud for a couple hours at least and verify that the bias is stable over some time, as it gets hot and everything. My personal experience with this particular TSL has caused me to be a bit gunshy with it still, but I do have faith that all will be well.

And if it ain't, I know where to look for help!

These days real Svetlana's power tubes from 90's are stupidly expensive. The Russian factory that build It was closed on '02. It's imposible find a good one set for a fair Price. I still have the stock power tubes from my '98 TSL100 but it's a risk use It. They are really worn. I'm glad your TSL it's fine.

Yeah I don't really have a whole bunch of tubes or a collection of them or anything, I only really ever buy new tubes when I have bad tubes lol

Probably is a good idea to start building a stockpile of them.

OH I understand, Blink. Let the proof be in the pudding..

Sorry for prior failures and misfunctions.

Good Tube Testers are pricey.

I bought some Preamp tubes a friend suggested and then met a Tube Seller personally who is local to me. When I bought 5 Svetlana 6550b tubes off him, He tested all my tubes from that amp. my el34's for my Laney, my other Pre amp tubes and well, I was disappointed that the ones I got off ebay the other seller claimed tested good, did not test good on his machine.

He did not sell me any Preamp tubes for my Superlead, but gave me one in the deal for the Svetlana's

In case anyone wants to look up my seller, I told him I would pass his info on as I truly do trust him sales wise and if anyone gets a bad tube, I am sure he makes good on any mistake he made too.

His Packaging also gives full results of his test results printed out on the sleeve.

his ebay name is nova.76 here is a sample of one of his test printouts.

I'm agree get tubes from Ebay it's a risk usually they are bad.

I came to keep an eye on the bias and my OCD-ish tendencies WOULD NOT let me accept the .8 difference between the two sets.....so I started messing with it and got it all caddywampus. I got it back though and this time with only a .3 difference between them.....I am leaving it alone, that was a bitch!

Question out of curiosity:

What is "normal" bias "drift"/swing?

Not that I'm having a problem, but during operation I do notice some slight up and down changes, but it's not extreme, and as I understand it, it's normal...but how much swing is too much??

My amp is swinging anywhere from 78mV to about 82mV after setting it to 80, for reference...
