Gretsch Lied about the Pickups? (or) Instant Buzzkill...

The pickup does appear to be designed to look like a mini hum.
Maybe the marketing guy who originally wrote the description of these simply didn't know they weren't?

Still, if it were a simple mistake somebody at the company probably would've caught that by now.
I guess it's likely that somewhere along the line a deliberate decision to deceive was made.

Noise is a big thing for me, I hate it.
I hate single coil pickups because of the buzzing noise.
I have always been obsessed with finding and fixing noises, it's compulsive obsessive.

I won't work with single coils unless they are of the hum canceling variety.

Once I copper shield a guitar, that's it. Noise is eliminated. I have had a few Gibson pickups that buzzed no matter how much shielding a guitar had, and I produced a video about this that I shared with Gibson in 2017 regarding a persistent and abnormal buzz on my 106 Gibson Les Paul 50's Tribute. Going through Gibson Artist Relations, I was able to get the guitar sent back to Gibson for an 'autopsy.'

Gibson zoomed me and told me that they found a short inside the bridge pickup that involved only one or two, hair-like strands of wire that were enough to create a short, but still allowed the pickup to function.

@syscokid also had a pair of Gibson humbucker pickups that buzzed no matter what was done to them and I believe they are internally shorted in the windings in exactly the same way.

I'll send the YouTube video link if you are interested....

AFTER they got busted of course lol doesnt do much for the ones sold under false pretenses. I smell a lawsuit coming

I guess that's the question...and I don't really have an opinion one way or the other.

Either Gretsch sold the basses and under false pretenses, or someone really screwed up when making the website.

Honestly, I don't find the latter too hard to believe! But, I really have no clue as to the correct answer...or even other possible causes.

I am ok with single coil hum, it is when the humbucker pups buzz that I get irked.

A few years ago while I was working on my Marshall JMP, I would try to get it as quiet as possible and test things with my single and humbucker pupped guitars.

When I began getting hum with Les Paul, 3 SG's and a DOT, I swapped cords, swapped amps, pulled out bridge inserts to check ground wires, swapped guitars and still would get humming.

Heck I even used a Solid State Fender amp and tried of different days, all kinds of mental gymnastics to figure out WTF. Turns out, Since it was intermittent, the Sherlock Holmes method of eliminating 1 thing at a time till I solved it, resulted in the culprit being the Living room Ceiling light being ON was causing the noise as I played in the bedroom above it on the 2nd floor. That Fixture was operated by a DIMMER SWITCH. MY GEAR was ok, but the WIRING of the house was the issue.
