Gretsch Corvette or PRS Vela

I am now intrigued to try one of these .......and really test these bits and bobs you have pointed out.

G man ---

BEsides I dont need another PRS either --- but I can trade you something fo the Gretsch ;)

I've seen many YouTube videos of that guy playing different guitars. He must be a salesman of some sort and a pretty good guitar picker for sure.;)

Well, I ended up pulling the trigger on a brand spankin new Gretsch Corvette.

It clicked all the right boxes for me.
Except one pickup short.
Light weight, good looks, thin mahogany body & neck, great feeling neck as well, thin but still substantial. No fret sprout. Medium / Tall frets.
21 frets, 24.6 inch scale length. Very comfortable.
Action & set up is right in the ballpark, fresh off the rack. Bigsby feels good, but it'll be coming off soon for my Bigsby improvment ritual.
Along with a roller bridge and a set of open back Grovers.
Fit & finish is quite nice, even if it is poly. At least the finish will be durable.

The MegraTron pickups sound pretty good. I will most likely just add one more.
Nothing bad to say at all about this Chinese made instrument. It really opened my eyes.

Pickguard still has the plastic coating on it. Will probably leave it on till the surgery's done.

Truss rod cover still has the plastic on it as well.

So how do I like it?
Very much so. Quite SG like in many ways, but it's really it's own animal.
It plays great. Sounds great and will be a great platform for some tasty mods.
Very similar to my other thin mahogany guitars, yet with a look and voice all it's own.

I'm glad I took the plunge & did it. No regrets.

Oh...nice corvette! It looks like you'll be putting a lot of miles on that baby.;) The upper fret access on that guitar looks pretty amazing. How do you find the ergonomics of the guitar?

I really like it. Very comfortable. It doesn't dig in anywhere.
Has similar edge bevels as an SG. The neck feels good in the hand.
I'm not a fan of fat necks, and this one feels great to me.
It's a winner for me. I'd put it in a similar league as the PRS SE line of guitars.
Pricewise it was close. Mid $600 range.

I have to agree Gahr, I think the Vela looks cool, but that bridge is like a sharp stick in my eye every time I look at it.
If it had the PRS wraparound bridge it would be a different story.

I really wanted a Vela and then got the chance to play one in-store. I was not impressed with the tone. It was rather thin. Worse yet, you are stuck with the neck pup unless you want to route the PG and possibly body.

I do not know much about Gretch guitars.

Great looking color. How you like those Gretsch Mega Tron pups ?I stuck a stock Gretsch Flitertron pup in one of my SG JRs and love it.
Like em enough to keep em and just add one more.
They have ceramic magnets from what I understand, but don't come across as harsh or brittle.
Kind of warm & fat with a little hair.

Sweet! I can’t wait to see how a third pickup is going to look in that!(and what it’s going to get in the pickup department)
