Gregg Allman, Soulful Trailblazer of Southern Rock, Dies at 69

No, no, no, no, no!!!!

Damn. While my greatest guitar heros growing up were Eddie Van Halen, J. Geils and Eric Clapton, the two bands that meant the most to the band I started playing with when I got my first guitar were Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers Band. We thought of ourselves as a Southern rock band (hey, we were from the south of Norway, after all!). We used to play "Statesboro Blues", "Hotlanta", "You Don't Love Me" and "Must Have Done Somebody Wrong", all pretty much note for note ripped from "Live at the Fillmore East". Gregg's voice was one of the most soulful ever in rock and blues music.

With Duane, Berry, Butch and now Gregg all gone, I just hope Jaimoe, Dickey and the other members who have played with the band can carry the torch on. Although the Allman Brothers Band is no more, their music and legacy lives on.

Rest in Peace Brother Gregg.

"Midnight Rider"

Well, I've got to run to keep from hidin',
And I'm bound to keep on ridin'.
And I've got one more silver dollar,
But I'm not gonna let 'em catch me, no,
Not gonna let 'em catch the Midnight Rider.

And I don't own the clothes I'm wearing,
And the road goes on forever,
And I've got one more silver dollar,
But I'm not gonna let 'em catch me, no
Not gonna let 'em catch the Midnight Rider.

And I've gone by the point of caring,
Some old bed I'll soon be sharing,
And I've got one more silver dollar,

But I'm not gonna let 'em catch me, no
Not gonna let 'em catch the Midnight Rider.

No, I'm not gonna let 'em catch me, no
Not gonna let 'em catch the Midnight Rider.

No, I'm not gonna let 'em catch me, no
Not gonna let 'em catch the Midnight Rider.

Son of a bitch... that hurts real deep...

To our Brother Gregg Allman: May you Rest In Peace... :sadwave:

And cheers to one of the greatest musicians I've ever seen...

This one is a big blow! I just watched The Big Interview with him last month and he looked good...RIP Gregg you will be missed...

It's amazing how many famous people are dying off these days. The year 2016 was a bad year including David Bowie and many others. It looks like 2017 is continuing the trend. I guess our time will come sooner or later...R.I.P.

We're all just getting old...and it's not going to slow down I'm afraid...many of our Rock heroes lived hard drinking and drug induced young lives. It takes a toll...

I'm suprised Keith Richards is still alive to this day. It must be the high quality drugs that he has used and abused throughout his career unlike some of the street drugs that are filled with crap that causes damage.

True! He stated in a couple interviews that he also believes it was the quality of his stash that kept him from dying from it...
